ADELE'S POV:

We hung out some more, and trust me, I couldn't stop laughing every time we watched the video. Tyler kept calling me names in an attempt to annoy me, but I just retaliated by playfully smacking his shoulder, which only made him groan in mock pain.

Finally, it was time to head home, so we exchanged goodbyes, and Nicole decided to come over to my place since we had our dance class in a few hours.

Gee, dance class, yeah!

As we arrived home, I quickly unlocked the door and entered with Nicole. To my surprise, Jake was slumped on the couch, totally engrossed in his phone.

Okay, not shocked. He was doing that a lot lately ever since Isa had returned. Skipping basketball practice, class, you name it. Ah, young love, the things it made us do!

"Hey, J!" I uttered as I walked in, tossing my stuff aside. Jake lifted his head instantly.

"Oh, you're back? How did I miss you coming in?"

"Maybe because you were glued to your damn cell phone! And seriously, J, stop skipping your classes!? You freak me out sometimes, just lounging on the couch like that when I came back."

"Ugh, stop, Adele, I'm busy," he sighed, and I rolled my eyes, turning away from him to look at Nicole, who was smirking.

Wait, Jake didn't notice Nicole? Impossible! Maybe now I could finally tell if Jake was into Isa?

"Oh, Jake. Look who's here!" I said, widening my eyes with excitement and gesturing toward Nicole. Jake's gaze immediately fell on her.

"Oh, hey, Nic," he greeted, his smile not as bright, and his tone lacking its usual enthusiasm.

Holy crap! Did Jake actually like Isa?

"Hi," Nicole replied softly, pursing her lips and giving a hesitant nod, and I just rolled my eyes.

This was getting awkward. I needed to change the subject, pronto.

"Jake! What about mom and dad? Is everything fine between the two of them?" I blurted out, hoping for a positive response, considering their odd behavior earlier in the day.

"Don't worry, they are cool. Probably just a little spat," Jake replied, giving me a reassuring wink. Ah, the eternal wisdom of older siblings.

Relieved, I nodded vigorously before making a beeline for the kitchen, much to Nicole's bewilderment as she watched me with folded arms.

Ah, victory called for celebration!

I snatched the Nutella jar from the shelf, grinning like a maniac, while Nicole shook her head in amused disbelief.

"What's with the grin?" she asked, her brow furrowing, and I couldn't help but chuckle.

"What? Can't a champion treat herself to a victory snack?" I teased, winking mischievously, and she rolled her eyes, unable to suppress a smile.

Back in my room, I sprawled on my bed, eyeing the Nutella jar like it was the last treasure on Earth. Nicole interrupted my reverie with an impatient screech.

"Adele?!"

I gasped, torn from my Nutella-induced trance, and reluctantly peeling my gaze away from the jar to face her.

"What?" I replied innocently, but Nicole saw right through me, her eyes narrowed with suspicion.

"I asked you something!" She rolled her eyes before plopping next to me on the bed.
