Logan was eating next to Enna in the Great Hall when Claire and Gianna entered and sat down at the table next to them.
"Did she die?!"
"Gia!" Claire scolded.
"Sorry!" Gianna winced before turning back to Logan, "Did the head of your orphanage cease to live?"
"Gianna!"
Logan shook her head.
"Nope." She said, "She made a full recovery."
"That's great to hear." Claire said.
Gianna nodded her head unconvincingly.
Across the room, Logan caught Maya's eye. Maya smiled for a second before her eyes widened and she glanced over to her left at Lily. Logan tentatively waved. Maya mouthed "talk later" and went back to her conversation.
Lily looked at Logan, before narrowing her eyes and turning back to her plate where she started viciously stabbing at her eggs.
"What's with her?" Gianna asked.
"Nothing." Logan said, a beat too quickly.
"Okay...?"
"Can you please pass the jam?" Enna asked her.
Logan gave the blonde a grateful look. After dinner, Logan waited outside the Great Hall for Maya.
"See you later!" Enna called to her.
"Bye!"
Maya and Lily walked around the corner. Lily didn't see Logan, but Maya did.
"Go up to the Common Room, I'll be right there." Maya told Lily.
"Okay."
Maya turned and walked over to where Logan stood.
"You're in deep trouble." She observed.
"No kidding." Logan said.
"Lily is really upset at you. She's only insulted Potter once today."
"No?!" Logan gasped.
"But seriously- and don't you make a joke about Black, Lily hasn't been the same."
"I'm trying to give her space." Logan said, "Will you help me make it up to her?"
"Listen Logan, I like you. You're a nice girl. So what if you kept a few secrets- yes, Lily told me, no, I won't tell- it's not the end of the world, is it?" Maya said, "You're my friend... but Lily was my friend first. So even when she's stupid and making dumb mistakes, I have to stick by her side. Because that's what friends do."
Logan nodded, reaching for her sparrow necklace. Maya looked at her sadly, before turning to walk away. She stopped, turned back and walked over to Logan.
