The day of the funeral came far too quickly. Arrangements were made, flowers picked out, and before Logan knew it, she was surrounded by crying people. Families and friends of the three fallen soldiers were there, and not a single one of them blamed her. How? She clearly was the one to blame, but nobody else saw it that way.
Enna's parents even came up to her. They hugged her and cried into her shoulder. She did the same to them. The Prewett twin's parents watched and their mother started crying as well, holding her husband for support. Their older sister, Molly came up to Logan next.
"Logan, isn't it?" She asked, "Logan Moore?"
Logan nodded.
Molly gave her a sad smile.
"Fabian and Gideon thought the world of you." She said, taking in a shaky breath, "I'm just sorry we had to meet this way."
"...Me too..."
"That's my husband, Arthur." Molly said, pointing out a red haired man holding a baby and standing next to two little kids.
"And that's Bill and Charlie. The little one is Percy." She said.
"They seem very sweet." Logan replied, attempting to force a smile.
"Honey, I just wanted to come over and tell you- it wasn't your fault." Molly said, "None of it."
Logan opened her mouth to protest, but Molly was having none of it.
"No, no, don't try and convince me otherwise." She said, "You have a kind soul and that makes you blame yourself, but I want to tell you that voice in your head saying this all happened because of you, it's wrong. It's so very wrong."
Logan wiped away some tears and nodded. Molly moved forward and hugged her.
"It's okay to cry." Molly reassured her, "Merlin knows I do it all the time."
Molly gave a little laugh, not letting Logan go just yet.
"If you ever need anything, you come to me and Arthur, okay? You come to us and we'll help you in a heartbeat. I promise." Molly vowed.
"Thank you, Molly." Logan said.
Molly nodded and released her, heading back over to Arthur. The rest of the funeral went by in a blur until Remus walked up to her.
"Logan." Remus said, leaning in to speak quietly, "It's time."
She nodded.
"You don't have to go up if you don't want to." He told her.
"Thank you, Remus." She said, "But I need to do this."
She walked up to the podium and everyone fell silent, eyes on her. Leaning into the microphone, she began her speech.
"I would just like to start by saying that Fabian and Gideon Prewett were great, great people. They saw light in the dark and put smiles onto the faces of everyone they met... Fabian would probably be telling jokes to me right now, back at the school while Gideon tried to dump a bucket of water over my head."
The crowd nodded and some even laughed.
"And I know... I know they wouldn't want us to be be... to be crying right now. They wouldn't want us to cry because their lives ended, but to smile because their lives happened. Because their lives mattered. They would want us to carry the happiness they had in their lives with us everyday. And... and Fabian and Gideon Prewett haven't left us. They would never leave the people they loved... they are still here, watching over us and persuading us to maybe pull a prank or two... And they will remain in our hearts... forever..."
There was a round of applause. Tears fell freely down Logan's face. She took a deep breath and prepared to say her speech about her best friend.
"Enna Davis... Enna was... my best friend. She was the peace in the chaos. The calm in the storm that life is. She was the type of person to put others first, even when she really ought to have thought about herself... Enna was-"
She choked back a sob.
"I'm sorry." Logan cried, "I just- I just really miss her...Being around Enna was happiness. Hearing her laugh was glee, seeing her smile... seeing her smile was bliss. And I... I don't know what I'm going to do without her, but I know that she would want me to stay strong... she would want all of us to remain strong... because Enna was strong. And Enna was brave. And Enna was good. And good people shouldn't have to-... good people shouldn't have to die."
There was a silence.
"But when they do... we should make a promise. A promise in memory of them. In memory of everything they stood for, everything they fought for. We should swear that we will never forget them. And we will never forget them... but we should promise that we will remain strong, even when we are left here without them and we don't know what to do...We will remain strong for them.... And I ask you all to remain strong now... for good people... like the ones we lost today... Thank you."
She walked down from the podium crying.
"Strong." She whispered to herself through her tears, "Stay strong."
Once everyone else had finished saying their speeches, it was time to say their last goodbyes to the ones they loved. To the ones they lost.
People moved slowly, taking their time to bid the three soldiers farewell. Logan was towards the back of the line next to the Marauders, Lily and Maya. When the line came to them, the boys went first. After saying their goodbyes to the twins, they moved onto Enna. Lily and Maya went next. Logan was last of their group, but she didn't mind.
Remus stood watched from the side as Logan stood next to Fabian and Gideon and whispered goodbye before eventually moving on to Enna. She kneeled down next to her body.
"I miss you." She whispered.
It was snowing and several people went inside, cold, but Logan didn't. She couldn't even feel the cold. Everything was numb with pain.
