*Louis' POV*
My mother is in the kitchen, doing the dishes. Maddy stands up from her seat on my lap. "I'm helping her." She says and places a kiss on my head. When also Maddy is in the kitchen I'm left alone with the six years old girl on the sofa. Her eyes are clustered on the television screen. Spongebob is playing and an adorable smile is playing on her small lips.
"Rosie, it's time for bed!" My mom calls from down the kitchen.
"No mommy, Louis is here! Just ten more minutes!" Rosie looks at me with big eyes, asking for help. I look at the clock, 9.30 is late enough for a small girl like her.
"I'll take you to bed." I say and open my arms for her to run into. She giggles and accepts my hug. I lift her up and swing her over my shoulder. She starts laughing and kicking her small legs. "Let go of me!" She laughs. I walk down the hall with her on my shoulder and open the door of her bedroom. "Put me down!" She laughs and I throw her on the bed. She bursts into laughter again, her curls spread over the sheets.
The walls are painted pink and her small bed is replaced by a white bunk with pink sheets. Her teddybears sleeping above her. There are drawings all over the walls. She also hung up pictures from our family. Most of them with her, mom and my brother. But on her white desk is one picture that's from our whole family, my dad already in jail, when we pretended to be okay but we weren't. I don't know what Rosie remembers of her father, probably nothing she was a baby, but I don't know if my mom told her about him. Did Rosie never ask where that scar on her cheek came from? Did she never ask if she didn't have a father?
"Louis?" She calls me. I put the frame back on her desk and turn towards her. She changed into her pajamas and is sitting on her bed now.
"Yeah?"
"Do you think I'm pretty?" She asks, bloody serious.
"You are the prettiest girl I've ever seen." I say.
"You're lying." She smiles.
"How so?"
"Maddy is way prettier than I am." I smile at her words, shaking my head lightly. "She's reaaaaaally pretty." Rosie exclaims.
"She is right?" I smile and sit down on the bed next to her. She lays her head on the pillow and I cover her small body with the blanket.
"Are you going to marry her? And have kids?" She asks me. I gulp, thinking back of my conversation with Maddy. I don't think I'm ever getting married and kids.. I'm just not good with them.
"We'll see." I answer, not wanting to hurt the girl's feelings.
"I don't think I'm pretty." She sighs.
"Why not?"
"My cheek, my mom says I was born like this. I hate it."
"Hey hey, that cheek is a part of you. It's who you are and you are wonderful. Nobody should ever make you feel like you're not. It's a part of you and you can't hate yourself alright? You are so pretty, that cheek doesn't change that."
"Thank you Lou, that's sweet." Her girly voice answers, then she yawns. "Time to go to bed." I whisper. I put a little light on before placing a kiss on her forehead. When I'm standing by the door she calls my name again.
"You'll come back right?"
"Yeah, I will." I answer. "Goodnight." I close the door behind me and look down the hallway. The door that leads to my old bedroom is next to Rosie's. I take a deep breath before opening and walking inside the room. My eyes look around, reality hitting me like a bus. My bed is still there, just like my desk and all of my old toys. Everything is left untouched. My mom cleaned the room with all the others like I was still here. I walk towards my window and stare outside, the sun is falling.
