Chapter 30: Inside

Another day of being Raifalia, I was walking around in the streets of Machina while Alice slept in the inn. This place was certainly big....

I walked past a large book shop, where there were some papers placed at the store front.

"Mosfog mystery... missing people came home miraculously..."

"Great news eh?" the shopkeeper smiled. "Good to see these folk finally return home."

"It is, isn't it?" I smiled, continuing with my ladylike mannerism. This was actually kinda fun.

Ohoho~?

N-no! Shut up! Don't say anything!!

Alright, alright. That said, Little Red has been busy, hasn't she?

Once I got to a certain vantage point, I could see the church nearby. I didn't really want to go near the place, but there wasn't much of a choice. I couldn't kill her again.

But it should be fine, no one can remember what happened, no matter how many times I turned time back. I just had to get a hold of myself and try to get her on my side.

Certain things did strike me as odd however... Why did she change from timid to being cold? It didn't feel like any action I performed snowballed into her becoming like this.

Without me realising, I had stumbled in front of the church. I stopped myself from walking in, turning around to leave. Only to feel like someone was looking at me. I glimpsed behind me, noticing a girl.

Shoulder-length white hair, her fringe covering her right eye.... red eyes.... Mary.

Her cold expression sent a chill down my spine. She was about to move towards me when a nun came out and ushered her back inside.

I quickly left the scene. Why was she looking at me like that?

I had no time to think. I sped up and headed somewhere else. Looking behind me to check if anyone followed me, I didn't pay attention to my front. Which lead to me ramming right into someone familiar.

"Miss Raifalia? You're up early."

"C-Claire! Oh um... just uh... strolling."

"You look worried. Is someone chasing you?!"

"N-No, I'm fine."

"It's alright, as a Knight, I have to protect the people," she put her hand to her chest.

"Don't worry, I'm fine. Why are you here alone anyways? Aren't you with the prince?"

"I was made to run some errands. I will join them later."

"Oh. Say, can I ask you something?"

"Ask away."

"How strong is Mary?"

"You mean Mary Seraph? Oh, she's plenty strong. She can use any of the six types of magic, so no one dares to go against her. But she seems to have changed overnight years back."

"What?"

"I knew her since I was a child, and she used to be a very timid one. But 5 years back, she suddenly became cold towards people. Anyone can tell you that."

5 years ago...? Kuro encountered me 5 years ago... It's just a coincidence, nothing more.

She suddenly looked me in the eye.

"What happened to that assassin, Raifalia?"

"The assassin?"

"You asked for the rights to him, what did you do?"
