Chapter 37: Royal Infiltration

Step one: capture
Step two: barter
Step three: break out
Step four: retrieval
Step five: return
Step six: evacuation

Six steps to getting everything done, according to Mary.

The first step was "capture", except it was "get captured". It basically involved getting near the palace and causing a scene. For this to work out, we needed Iona and Alice. And me.

It also involved jail. And me getting thrown in it.

Not exactly fun.

Mary knew Kuro was important for turning back time, but having her taken away would cause multiple issues, mainly a pile of bodies of those who try to touch her, so we needed an extra hand.

There were two choices.

One, get Scarlet. Scarlet can teleport between where she is and my location, so the idea was to have Kuro wrapped in cloth to avoid direct contact, and have her teleport to me, handing me Kuro.

Two, have Mary help. Mary can teleport people and objects from any two points, but the thing was that she has to know where I would end up. This could lead to problems like Kuro being teleported near me, but out of my reach. And it was hard to trace my mana from that far away. Especially without Citra or Alice.

Her teleportation had certain limitations. She couldn't teleport herself or others to places she hasn't physically been to. She can teleport objects to a location she's never been to, but her accuracy gets poorer the further away it is.

After some discussion, we decided to fill Scarlet in with the plan, and have her bring Kuro to me. She was original opposed to me being thrown in jail, but eventually went along with the plan.

But there was another issue. Having me captured would cause my identity as a Tendoen to be exposed, and it could end up causing big problems.

The solution? As much as I didn't want to, I had to be doing this in disguise. Cue my feminity. Again. Glad I brought some of extra voice changers with me...

It was gonna be a little rougher with the handling though... I was slightly worried about those that couldn't keep in their pants however..

With that in check, we made our move. Mary teleported us to an alley, not far from the palace. Sure saved time. Scarlet took Kuro for safekeeping while we got things ready.

Now to cause a scene.

"Hey! Give that back this instant!!" Iona yelled at me.

"..." I looked away.

"My Master didn't take anything from you! Now get out of here!" Alice voiced. They were doing a good job with the acting.

"You stole my purse, I know you did!"

"What? You bumped into me! If anything, you're more likely to have stolen something from me!"

"Hey hey! Break it up!" A couple of guards came over. Just as we wanted. "What's happening?"

"This woman stole my purse! She bumped into me and the next thing I knew, it was gone!"

"Do you have proof of that?" a guard asked.

"Yeah! Master wouldn't steal from anyone!"

"The both of you stay quiet," the other guard snapped. "Lady, I will need to check your belongings."

"Why would I have stolen anything from a Puppet?! If anything, they probably don't even have any money to begin with!" I yelled.

That felt like a punch in the gut... never expected I'd say something like this.
