Our destination was to get to Lumos, the capital of Sylphie. And from where we were, getting there was a pain in the arse.

Lumos was south of Alfenheim and west of Harmonia, furthest away from the Red Zone compared to the rest of Sylphia. While there wasn't heavy fortification near the borders like at Anima, Lumos was considerably higher up.

Getting there required a long hike or some animals, as there was no public transport. There were services like warping between certain points in cities, but getting seen was an issue, so getting to where we needed was going to be done on foot.

In other words, walking several days in this weather. Snow, snow and just when you thought there was enough, more snow.

It was just a cycle of going from city to city, with a side of traveling through a forest. And forests in Sylphia were pretty dangerous. Large animals roamed around and spirits could often be found wandering through them.

And if my experiences looking Ruira were of any use, spirits and forests don't give a very friendly result. Also, unlike spirits in Reverie that generally just tricked us, the ones here will literally try to kill us. What joy.

I didn't have to worry about being killed by people here, oh no. Nature will do it for them. Like the damn winter here.

Continuing my ranting in my head, I pushed on with the trek. It was tiring to move around in this weather.

"Raito, we should try and cover more ground. Daylight is short."

"Gotcha...."

Mary walked closer to me, she too affected by the cold.

"Master, are you alright?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little tired."

The day was just a boring trek through the forest, and we found ourselves having to set up camp before long. Day become night faster than we expected.

On the upside, the snow had stopped. The night sky was clear... and I could see the stars. Rare. And for once, no one needed to stand guard.

Before we went to sleep in our tents, Sylphie created a simple barrier around us, keeping spirits and creatures out of the area.

In our tent, Mary snuggled closer to me.

"Hey, Master?"

"Yeah?"

"Have you ever wondered about the future...?"

"What?"

"Like, after the war. If we survive. What would you do?"

"I've.... actually never thought about it. I've always considered my work a suicide mission. If I don't die... I really don't know."

"I want a family," she smiled gently. "With two kids maybe..."

"What are you getting at?"

"Are you actually making me say it?" she blushed. "I... I want to... I want to marry you, Master."

"W-Wha?! That's sudden."

"I've been thinking for some time!" she voiced. "I just... want to be with you. Not like this... but closer."

"What if I don't make it? Who knows what will happen with Vocatio Dei? I don't even know what to do with the sacrifice..."

"Well... you can sacrifice me, or you can marry me."

"Why do you sound like you're ready to die!?"

"I am," she turned away. "I want to help you, Master. There's no way around it. Alice doesn't know about this, and she's the closest one to you. I know you don't want to sacrifice her either. Probably more than me."
