I woke up early. It wasn't a nightmare this time. It was the cold.
"Bloody hell... it's freezing," I shivered, slowly making my way out of the sleeping bag. "Scarlet's outside...?"
I peeped out of the tent, greeted by the fresh morning breeze, cold enough to freeze my face off. If I wasn't awake before, I certainly was now...
"Good morning, Master," Scarlet looked at me, sitting on a log.
"Morning. You're up early."
"I'm used to it. Want to have something to eat?"
"Sure. I'll wake up the other two," I yawned. "Wish I could sleep a while more, it's so cold out here."
"Makes you miss your room in the base?"
"It's cramped, but at least its warm."
"Figures," she giggled. "We'll need to pack up after we eat. We don't have a lot of time."
"My words exactly. I wanna go back..."
"I'll get breakfast ready then."
"Sure."
I had a newfound respect for Scarlet. Even though she didn't have to, she spent most of her time in this place, in this weather, just to help me investigate the Mosfog case.
As she began cooking some of the good we bought, I went to wake the others. We were to heading out when it got bright enough, but the fog certainly wasn't helpful. It was hard to make our way out, but as long as Scarlet was with us, everything should be fine.
In fact, I was more likely to die from the cold than being lost and mauled by some random animal. Not that I wanted either to happen.
After getting our stomachs filled, we set out. It wasn't going to take too long before we reached the place Ruira was, according to Scarlet. And Alice was excited.
She wasn't showing it much herself, but her ribbons were waving about in excitement. Kinda like a dog. It was cute.
Though the fog was still quite thick, Scarlet still managed to guide us through the whole ordeal of trekking and climbing some rock faces and things of the sort. I was the one having the most trouble, actually.
All three of them possessed stamina far greater than mine. At the same time, Scarlet had plenty of energy, Alice could climb anything with her ribbons to help, and Iona had leg strength strong enough to crack trees. Meanwhile, I had.... nothing much.
The main reason we took breaks in between walking was because I got tired. It was kinda embarrassing.
Cheer up, Raibo. I didn't do well when I was a human either.
What happened to you?
I got shot.
Completely out of context. Did it hurt?
I died. You be the judge.
Hm.
We spent about 3 hours walking, until Scarlet suddenly stopped. There was a distinct aura that shrouded us, even though my bell was still chiming. Alice and Iona were startled, both huddling close to me.
"Scarlet, what's happening?"
She turned around and gave us a smile.
"Listen."
I was sure it was going to be some strange creature, but instead, there was a sudden soft sound of singing. It was gentle, and seemed to render all the spirits around us calm.
