Chapter 34: Mosfog Misadventures (2)

The train's horn blared as it started moving. Iona was busy reading some notes Scarlet made about Mosfog while Alice was happily looking outside the window.

"They look excited, Master."

"Can't blame them. Alice will likely find her sister, and Iona hasn't been with me for a while. You're excited too, aren't you?"

"You got me," she giggled. "I'm sure Alice will be happy."

"How are you so sure we'll find Ruira?"

"Well," she smiled. "Let's just say I know what I'm doing."

"I'm never sure how to react to you when you smile like that."

I knew Scarlet was a pretty sly fella, but she's only gotten better at it, it seemed.

"Alice, Iona, how about you two get some sleep? It's still a while before we reach Steinshelm."

"Okay~"

"I'll read a while more. You can rest on lean on me if you want, Alice- I-I didn't mean to take my lap!"

"But Iona's lap is so soft~"

"A-Alice! That tickles!!"

"They've gotten quite close," Scarlet laughed. "It's nice to see."

"It has been a while since Iona joined us. I would be surprised if they haven't. She's recovered well too. She isn't that worried about others anymore."

"I can hear you two," she pouted.

"Sorry."

After a few of hours of travel, I woke up to a sudden bump. It was a little chilly...

We were passing over a huge forest, slowly making our way past a great bridge. Below us, a massive mossy forest, layered in snow and shrouded in fog...

"Mosfog forest...," I looked out of the window. "It's larger than I thought. And foggier."

"Guess why I spent so long in this place. It's easy to get lost due to spirits in the forest. I got lost a few times, so I had to keep teleporting. I'll wake up the- oh my."

"What's up- oh."

Alice was comfortably sleeping on Iona's lap, while Iona's had a hand on Alice's head. She was stroking her while Alice slept... Well, was. Iona herself was sound asleep, leaning against the wall. The notes still in her other hand.

"How adorable...," she smiled. "It's time to wake up~ Hello~?"

"Mom...?" Alice shifted. "Eh? Wha-?!"

"Alice, keep it down.... You'll bother the others..," Iona rubbed her eyes. "Oh right... we're in a room..."

"Where are we...?" Alive asked, looking out of the window.

"On a bridge above Mosfog forest. We'll reach the town of Concela soon enough, according to Scarlet's notes," Iona answered.

Sure enough, we finally arrived at the town around half an hour later. The whole journey took about 6 hours, but it was better than walking or horseback.

I stretched once we were off the train. The town of Concela... Seemed like a nice place, but it was freezing. Concela was part of the northern area of Steinshelm. Which was the northmost state of Reverie, which was also the northmost country of Malira.

Needless to say, with it being winter... it was freezing. Alice had changed into winter wear the moment we got off the train... her instant clothing changing ability was useful...

"Fine weather today isn't it, Master?" Scarlet joked. "We should first get some sleeping bags and tents from the local shops. No good freezing to death in the forest."
