"Master~!"
"H-Hey! Watch it will ya?"
Sakura smiled at me as she dropped off my back.
"Good morning~"
"Morning. Slept well?"
She nodded. "You are even making breakfast for me~ It really is great to have you as my Master!"
"It's the least I can do for putting you in danger all the time."
"It is not an issue. Protecting Master is something I have sworn to do. That said... I wish this war can come to an end, the only thing that is happening is death."
"Me too. Here, food's ready."
"Thank you~"
I wished days could continue peacefully. The war wasn't going in our favour. It was only a matter of time before Tendo would fall.
Memories of her screams haunted me again last night. Kept me up all night, and I barely slept. I didn't want to do it, but I had follow orders. I had to....
Sakura wasn't showing any hints, but she probably felt the same way about it. I wouldn't be surprised if she hated me for doing that.
Father's passing was abrupt, and mother was broken because of it. Tsuki-nii had his hands tied working his arse off, and Hina wasn't having it any easier at the shrine. And there's me, who was nothing more than a pathetic wreck.
"Master, you are not eating? Is there something wrong?"
"I'll just eat later."
"That will not do! I must make sure you eat well, this is my duty."
"As what?"
"As your beloved wife!" she smiled, showing off her ring. "It troubles me to see you in such a state...."
"Sakura, it's fine. Why are you still calling me that anyway? We're married right?"
She grinned. "Hahaha, 'Master' is more fun to say."
"Whatever floats your boat I guess," I let out a sigh.
"Master, you should not sigh much. They say your happiness leaves you when you sigh."
"Does it now?"
"Yes. So please, smile. These days will be rough, but I will be by your side always, Master. Do not worry."
"Thanks," I chuckled.
Though the world was crap, simply having her around made things a lot more bearable. As long I had her with me, everything would be fine...
Alas, dreams remain dreams. And when you open your eyes, the only thing that can be seen is reality.
Fire scorched the lands as the my brother's last breath left him. Crushed by debris, he was stuck where he was.
'Protect Hina' was what he told me to do. And like a fool I promised him exactly that. Someone like me couldn't possibly protect her in the face of all the shit in this world.
Before I could get to Hina, bombs hit the shrine. A fireball engulfed the entirety of it, along with it was Hina and everyone who stayed there.
Surely this was the world telling me to go and die. Of course it was.... I killed innocent people, who had no involvement in the war. All the gods must have hated me.
No wonder prayers wouldn't work. And so, I stopped praying entirely.
Sakura held me in her arms, trying to calm me, a 47 year old idiot who was crying like a baby who lost its toy. Everything was going to be fine, she said. Yet in her voice hid her own fears and worry.

Science FictionWar raged through the world. People die one after another, one way or another because of the war. I could make no difference, just another person to die in this endless war. It was nothing special. Something I realised long ago. My family, friends...
