Finding a place to eat in this area was difficult. Finding one with decent prices was even worse. With only a measly amount of money on hand, I wasn't sure how long I'd survive. Honestly speaking, raiding raiders began to look tempting.
Very. Tempting.
I eventually gave up and just went to the bread shop I went to yesterday night. The old lady working there recognised me pretty fast, somehow. It was surprising someone like her was here in Ravenhelm. She was entirely of out place here...
"Well now, you remind me of my daughter. What's your name, little one?"
"A-Alice..."
"Oh what a lovely name, fitting for such a cute little one," she smiled. "Here to buy more bread, young man?"
"Yeah. Couldn't find anywhere that sold things at a decent price."
"Well that's Ravenhelm for you. Come on now, go ahead and pick what you want, they're fresh," she smiled.
After getting a few pieces of bread, the old lady told Alice to wait for a bit. She came back moments later holding a small deck of cards in her hands.
"Here you go little one. A little something for you."
"Umm... thank you. But what is this?"
"Oh my, how rare for someone to not know how to play with cards. Young man, you know how, don't you?"
"Kinda,"
"Well, you ought to teach her to play a few games," she smiled. "Maybe play with me one day, this old lady used to be a fine player. My daughter used to play with me all the time! Oh how I wish to see her again."
The bread lady was... an interesting fellow. She was... oddly joyful, in a world of chaos and war. You could see it in her smile and speech...
It was a shame that I wouldn't be able to come back to play any games with her... I had things to work on.
I waved her goodbye as we headed off. I was still wondering how I could possibly get rid of Iona's debts, then it hit me.
Quite literally hit me. As in, something actually bumped into me.
"Watch it, kid," a guy voiced after he walked into me from behind. "Ya looking for a fight? Huh?"
Alice's ribbons wrapped his arm.
"Thanks Alice. I'll be taking back my wallet, buddy. Seriously thought I wouldn't notice? Honestly though, I only have like 15 copper coins left, nothing much you can do with that amount."
"You can't even bed a cheap whore with that... or did you just use everything on that monster?Just bug off!"
"Someone's pissed...," I sighed. "And I'm the victim here..."
"Master?"
"Don't worry about it. Come on, we should be going."
"Where?"
"Back. There's some things I still need to figure out. Namely how to get Iona out of here without anyone getting hurt."
---
The damn day was spent figuring out a method of saving Iona, but I ended using up the my entire day's time. While in the room, Alice was busy observing the deck of cards the old lady gave her. She seemed pretty curious about them... I should teach her a game or two after things are settled with Iona...
I left the room to see if I could find Iona anywhere, but I was instead greeted by a loud crash from downstairs. Alice must've recognised it as danger, as she immediately sprang out of the room to get near me.
