It was well in the night when I got ready for bed. As the lights went out, Alice snuggled up beside me while Iona was fast asleep on my right. The dim light from the outside lightly illuminating the room.
She looked at me with a smile, her eyes glowing a gentle blue. Were they always this bright?
"Master~? Are you ready for a lullaby?"
"Go ahead," I lied down.
And with a gentle voice, she started singing. It was the first time I ever heard her sing, and it was... calming. The lullaby used old Reverien, but the words were simple enough to understand.
Let your worries flow,
Far far away.
Fret not, fear not,
It will be fine.
Rest now, rest now,
Close your eyes.
Morning will come,
So lay and rest.I didn't expect a lullaby to be working this well, but my sleepiness proved otherwise.
And before I knew it, it was morning.
I sat up, looking around. Neither Alice nor Iona were on my bed... how long was I asleep for?!
10 hours. Morning sleepyhead.
10 hours...?! No nightmares either. It was... peaceful.
Indeed. It was an interesting lullaby. The child kept singing for a while after you fell asleep, though I don't remember what she sang.
It certainly worked...
I yawned. I hadn't had a good sleep in ages.
The door opened, it was Iona.
"Good morning, Master. I haven't seen you sleep that long in a while. You always woke up in once or twice."
"Did I?" I scratched my head. "Guess I'm going a little crazy."
"That's not the case!" she voiced. "I'm sure you're just tired."
"Probably. I don't know."
"By the way, Master. Someone came home around an hour ago."
"Someone?"
Before she could answer, that certain someone sprang onto my bed, hugging me tightly.
"Master! It is good to see you again!! I hadn't been able to touch anyone for so long!"
"Ahaha.... welcome back, Scarlet. How did things go about in Mosfog?"
"Ah yes," she sat up. "I was about to talk to you regarding that matter. But it's better to have Alice in here too. This concerns her."
"She has something to do with it?"
"In a sense. Iona, could you call Alice in here?"
"Alright, you enjoy being with Master. For now," she smiled. Something about that smile sent a chill down my spine, however....
"Scarlet, you don't have to stick right next to me..."
"But..."
Let her be, Raibo. You sent her on a mission in a potential dangerous forest alone. It's a miracle she got back in one piece.
You're right, I guess.
Just listen to me and let her do as she wants for now.
"N-Nevermind. Go ahead."
She smiled and leaned against me. "I missed you, Master. It was quite lonely."
