Chapter 15-I was trying to protect you

{Macklynn's POV}

Police-"Step away from the woman, young man"
J-"What"
Police-"Do it"
Joe got up and stepped away from us all. I had to do something. I got up and went towards the police officer that was walking towards Joe, I pushed against him and said.
M-"NO PLEASE STOP IT'S A MISTAKE"
Police-"Little girl move"
J-"Leave her alone"
The police officer pushed me to the ground but I got straight back up and ran to Joe. I put my arms around him a squeezed him.
M-"I'm so sorry Joe"
Joe picked me up and I cried into his shoulder.
J-"It's ok, it's not your fault"
M-"Yeah it is"
D-"What"
Joe looked at me.
M-"I called them because I thought you were going to hurt Dianne but you haven't all you've done is make her happy and laugh"
Joe put me down. He looked sad, tears were forming in his eyes. I had really made a mistake. Adisha pushed past all the police so she was stood in front of them.
A-"Macklynn why did you call us then"
M-"All the other men have hurt Dianne but we never protect her from them so for once I wanted to protect here" I cried more and more. What had I done?
A-"Oh sweetheart come here"
I ran up to Adisha and she picked me up into her arms.
M-"I'm sorry"
A-"It's ok we all make mistakes"
She hugged me then turned around to the police.
A-"It's ok there has been a misunderstanding here but I understand that you will still need to carry out an investigation"
Police-"Yes mam, first can we talk to the young woman"
Dianne got up, Eponiné was still gripped tightly on to her as she went over to hug Joe. They hugged, she hugged him with sadness and he hugged her back with love. Joe is going to hate me now.
So is Dianne.
Police-"Please can we talk to you alone"
When Eponiné let go of Dianne's leg she started to tremble with fear. She turned to Joe. Joe crouched down and said to her.
J-"It's going to be ok there just trying to help I won't let them hurt you"
Eponiné ran into his arms. He held her close and sat on the sofa. Eponiné was snuggled into Joe so her back was facing the police. No one had ever promised to protect us other than Dianne and Adisha. I feel horrible, how could I do this to Joe?

{Dianne's POV}

The police took me into another room in my house and started to question me.
Police-"How do you know the little girls"
D-"There my little sisters"
Police-"How do you know the young man"
D-"He's called Joe and he's my boyfriend, we met at school"
Police-"Has he ever abused you mentally, physically or sexually"
D-"No what sort of questions are these" Anger started to cloud my thoughts .
Police-"Mam we are just making sure you are all safe and when the little girl called that it was truly a mistake"
D-"Ok"
Police-"Did you know the little girl had called us"
D-"No I was in the other room with Joe"
Police-"Why"
D-"Because we were taking"
Police-"About what"
D-"About why I wasn't at school and who the little girls are"
Police-"So Joe hasn't known the little girls long"
D-"Urm no"
Police-"You hesitated"
D-"Because your not giving me any time to think are you questioning me or interrogating me"
Police-"Mam we are here to help"
I swear police officers never answer your questions directly they always answer in some sort of riddle
D-"Fine"
Police-"So had Joe known them long"
D-"No"
Police-"Can you think of any reason for the little girl to be scared of Joe"
D-"Well Yeah"
Police-"What are those reasons"
D-"Well she's young and didn't know who he was and the other reasons you'll have to ask our social worker Adisha"
Police-"Very Well the questions are over you may leave"
D-"It's my house"
Police-"I know"
I sighed and rolled my eyes, I never got on with the police even if they were trying to help. When I returned I couldn't see anyone. No Joe. No Eponiné. No Macklynn. No Adisha. Where are they? I went up to another police officer that was stood in the room.
D-"Excuse me, do you know where the others are"
Officer-"Yeah, Adisha is with the older girl and the young man is with the younger girl they are in questioning"
D-"Oh wait Eponiné went with Joe"
Officer-"I mean I don't know there names but yeah she wouldn't let him go"
D-"Really"
Officer-"Yeah"
Eponiné never trusts people straight away like this. But I suppose she had no choice I had left, Macklynn called the police and brought all these strange people in the house. I hope she's ok.

{Joe's POV}

The police wanted me for questioning. Eponiné was still snuggled up to me so I stood up still holding her.
Officer-"Alone please"
J-"Urmm"
I looked at Eponiné and she shook her head then tucked her head back into my neck.
J-"Sorry but i'm not leaving her"
Officer-"Sir we-"
Officer 2-"That's fine come with us please"
I followed the officers into a room. Eponiné sat on my lap, she definitely wasn't going to let me go.
Police-"So how do you know the little girls"
J-"I met them this afternoon I know them through there older sister Dianne"
Police-"So you haven't known them long"
J-"No"
Police-"How would you describe your relationship with Dianne"
J-"What do you mean"
Police-"How do you feel about her"
J-"Well I love her she's my world"
Police-"So your dating"
J-"Yeah she's my girlfriend"
Police-"Do you have a motive to hurt Dianne or any of the others"
J-"Of course not, I wouldn't dream of it"
Police-"Thankyou sir, is it ok if we ask the little one questions" They pointed at Eponiné, I nodded. I had no idea how much they would get out of her.
Police-"So little one" He smiled at Eponiné and Eponiné turned her head slightly to look at him.
Police-"Where were you when your sister made the phone call"
Eponiné looked at me.
J-"Were you in the same room as Macklynn"
Eponiné nodded.
Police-"Urm did you know what she was doing"
Eponiné shook her head then nodded it.
Police-"What does that mean"
Eponiné whispered to me.
J-"It means she didn't at first and she didn't know who she called but she had an idea"
Police-"Ok thank you i won't ask you anymore questions"
J-"Thank you"
I wondered how Dianne would react to what's happened. Would this affect our relationship? Eponiné looked nervous so I took her to the side of the room and put her down.
J-"Are you ok"
Eponiné shook her head.
J-"Whats up"
E-"Last time men like this were at our house we all got separated and we didn't see Mummy I mean Dianne for ages"
J-"It's ok"
I took her in my arms, my arms wrapped round her tightly as did hers "Don't leave us Joe" "I won't ever" "Promise" "Promise"
