Norman kept his hands on the wheel and sternly kept his eyes on the road. Emma cheerfully ate some chips, not forgetting to offer some to Ray and Y/n who sat at the back.
The radio softly played out a song, passing as a background track of their road trip.
Ray trailed his eyes to the horizon outside his window, white clouds scattered on a pure blue canvas. The view looked like a painting by Bob Ross, which made Ray happy.
Y/n, on the other hand, placed her head on her palm, eyes as bored as ever. How long until they get to their destination? Maybe more than thirty minutes of utter silence and deathly boredom...until a familiar song turned up. Emma beamed and Y/n perked up.
"Is that what I think it is?" Ray averted his eyes to the front.
Norman lets out a tiny smile as he started the first line. "Almost heaven, West Virginia..."
"Blue ridge mountains, Shenandoah river..." Emma continues, still with a bright grin.
Y/n joins. "Life is old there, older than the trees..."
And finally, Ray sings his best. "Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze."
The four sing the chorus; "Country roads, take me home, to the place I belong. West Virginia, mountain mama. Take me home, country roads."
The mood lightens up as they continue singing.
Ray and Emma: "All my memories gather round her. Miner's lady, stranger to blue water..."
Emma and Norman: "Dark and dusty, painted on the sky. Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye..."
All: "Country roads, take me home, to the place I belong. West Virginia, mountain mama. Take me home, country roads..."
Ray and Norman: "I hear her voice, in the morning hour she calls me. The radio reminds me of my home far away..."
Emma and Y/n: "And driving down the road I get a feeling that I should have been home yesterday, yesterday..."
Norman and Y/n: "Country roads, take me home, to the place I belong..."
Ray and Y/n: "West Virginia, mountain mama. Take me home, country roads..."
All: "Country roads, take me home, to the place I belong. West Virginia, mountain mama. Take me home, country roads..."
"Take me home, down country roads. Take me home, down country roads."
The song ends with a satisfying feeling, followed by peace-filled silence.
the end.
Ladies and gents it is almost midnight and I have repeatedly listened to Country Roads for 13 times straight in a row no joke and I do not know what to do with my life
