(Chapter full of angst I guess? It's still pretty long though lol so just a warning.)
"What experiment?"
That question left Connor's lips hastily. He had been waiting fifteen annoyingly long minutes. Just to be able to get what Kamski promised him. Just to be able to say farewell to Y/N because he knew that she wouldn't see him again. Neither would he.
Those fifteen minutes seemed to take so long, so damn long. It almost felt as if Y/N had disappeared for an hour maybe even more, which wasn't true. She was gone for just fifteen minutes yet for Connor it felt like an eternity.
But now an experiment? What was going on?
"I was discussing this with Y/N earlier. I asked her if she still believed androids are capable of feeling...empathy," Kamski shared neutrally. His tone not giving anything he had planned away.
Connor sensed Y/N's muscles tense up. She didn't look at Connor, but flashed Kamski an alarmed gaze.
"She told me that they're just 'machines'."
Really? That's clearly a lie...right? Connor moved his gaze to Y/N. The [e/c] coloured eyes briefly gazed at him, pure alarm and panic in them, before she moved her gaze away from him.
Disappointment and a tang of sadness hit Connor at seeing her dismiss him and his LED flashed yellow.

Why did Connor feel...disappointed? Y/N's "lie" was clearly correct. Androids didn't feel empathy. They couldn't. They weren't capable.
He wasn't capable.
But then why did he feel a lump form in his throat as he thought of Y/N completely dismissing that idea? He almost had to reassure himself that she was lying.
"Well of course," Connor forced himself to say that. He hoped that his tone didn't sound strained. "She's correct. Androids aren't capable of feeling empathy. Aren't you aware of that too, Kamski?"
"Aren't you aware that she's lying?" Kamski bit. His blue eyes flashed with intimidation. Connor sensed Y/N tense up again, this time she didn't look at either of them. "I believed that it was just a phase, but it's clear that it's not. She's believed that for a while now. Her lying is horrible," Kamski laughed. "Even I can see that, RK800."
That laugh clearly was supposed to sound friendly. Maybe even lighthearted. But it just came out in a mocking way and Connor could tell that it affected Y/N, because she moved her eyes to look down at the floor and her lips curled downwards.
"Aren't you aware of that, RK800?"
"Your creator believes you have some sort of empathy in you."
"I don't," Connor reassured Kamski. His voice was laced with desperation, something he hated to hear. He shouldn't even be reassuring Kamski that he wasn't capable of empathy because it was clear enough. It should be clear enough. "I don't have the capability and I never will. Y/N was wrong about that. I can't show empathy. I'm an android-"
"That's where my little experiment is going to prove you wrong," Kamski smiled, almost sadistically.
Connor parted his lips in order to say something, but he was cut off as Kamski walked past him. "Come here, RK800. I need to show you something."
Connor froze. He didn't like where this was going. Not at all.
He spared a glance over to Y/N, who was looking closely at Kamski with narrowed, suspicious eyes.
