after another long shift at the diner, jenna finally got the relief of sitting on the oh-so comfortable couch.

she picked up the home phone to her side and dialed in josh's number. she sighed a little. she was in between whether she wanted him to pick up the phone or not.

"hello?" it was josh. his voice was just as blank as it was the day after the party. that was weeks ago.

"hey, josh, it's jenna." she cringed a little bit, she tied her hair into a ponytail while she put the phone on speaker.

"oh, what's up?" his voice immediately sounded much less interested.

"can i ask about debby?" jenna felt her jaw clench purely out of uncomfortable tension.

"only if i can ask why you were such a bitch to her earlier." josh practically snarled through the phone. jenna's has could have dropped to the ground.

"excuse me?" her blue eyes squinted while her brows furrowed.

"she told me you pushed right past her when she nicely asked you about homecoming! just because you don't like her doesn't mean i don't!" josh snapped.

but on josh's side of the phone he was broken and it broke him even more that jenna could see through him. he didn't like the thought of being alone, he needed a distraction from memmie. so he took debby back.

"josh, my heart hurts for you. i can't imagine what you're going through. are you sure that debby is the person you want to be with?" jenna shook her head a little.

"jenna, just mind your business. i'm fine." josh's voice cracked near the end of his second sentence. he wasn't okay in the slightest.

the curly haired boy hung up the phone to immediately throw his head into his pillow, the tears came quickly.

there was a light knock on his bedroom door before it swung open.

"josh, don't be like this." his mother cooed, rubbing her sons back. he only chocked our a sob.

"mom, i'm so tired. i don't think i'm feeling anymore, everything just seems so blank now." josh ran his hands through his greasy brown curls.

"josh, this this about memmie?" she sighed. josh nodded.

"she wasn't worth it. she overstepped a boundary she shouldn't have crossed. she was probably just using you for citizenship." the older woman said. josh's eyes grew angry.

"using me?! mom, we were together for three years! i loved that girl with my whole heart! and to think she was using me?! guess what? i proposed to her! i wanted her to fucking stay! but not for a second in your dumbass mind did you think that she wasn't using me!" josh yelled. josh never yelled at his mother.

not to mention josh was a terrible sight when he was angry. his usual bubbly voice was now razor sharp and his voice boomed to every inch of the house. josh was pissed.

"i'm going on a run. and don't fucking talk to me unless i talk to you first." josh spoke, eyebrows furrowed and jaw clenched. his mother only nodded.

he quickly stood up from his bed and walked to the front door, slamming it harshly behind him.
