memmie and josh got seated in homeroom quickly. senior year was all pressure based. the heat of getting accepted to college or to figure out if you even are going to college.
memmie picked under her nails while she watched some of the other kids walk in. her heart raced, if it were to beat any harder she was sure it was going to explode.
"you okay, baby?" josh asked softly, he ran his large hand over her small one. the girl gulped and gave him a nod.
"yeah, i'm just fine." she reassured josh. he didn't fully buy it but he knew she would have been upset if he thought otherwise.
the teacher began class, she went on about how important college was and how to figure out what college was for you. memmie tuned it out.
instead, she fiddled with her dark brown curls between her fingers while she watched the clock.
josh's eyebrows furrowed while he watched his girl. she was undeniably nervous.
"memmie, what's wrong?" josh spoke. it was serious if he used her name.
"nothing. leave me alone." she snapped with angered eyes. she was going to regret that later.
"whatever you say." josh shrugged, giving his attention back to his teacher.
that only pent up more emotions. now josh was upset with her and she was upset with herself. before she knew it, everyone was getting a paper passed back for a college application.
the girl filled out as much as she could while biting her lip raw. it was fine up until she got to her social security.
her brown eyes watered while she stared at the blank fill in box. a tear landed on her paper.
"holy shit. memmie, tell me what's wrong." josh wiped the tears off her face. that's when she started sobbing.
it was loud enough to get the teachers attention.
"ms.mendez, is everything alright?" she said sympathetically. memmie threw her head into josh's shoulder, bawling away.
"j-josh. i ca-can't fill it o-out." the brunette stuttered through cries and sniffles.
"why not?" josh was confused. he rubbed his girlfriends back while her chest heaved.
"i d-don't have social security, j-josh." she cried even harder in the now silent classroom. and god, she was embarrassed.
"what?" josh's eyes grew a little. he wasn't upset, just confused.
"i'm not here legally." memmie looked her boyfriend in his hazel eyes.
her cheeks were stained with a combination of tears and mascara and her eyes were red. josh only held her tighter.
"shh, we're gonna get this worked out. okay? we're gonna go do we can cool down. is that alright?" josh asked, squeezing her as tight as he could.
"yes." she muffled out softly, through cries. the teacher shot josh a warning glare if he were to get up, the boy just gave her a meaner one.
he picked up memmie's maroon backpack, leaning the paper and pen at her desk. he quickly guided her out of the room and into his car.
"it's all gonna be okay. this is going to be fixed. you know i'd do anything for you anyway." josh comforted her.
he lightly kissed the top of her head before pulling out of the schools parking lot.
