tw: mentions of self harm
soon enough, tyler was seated in the passenger side of the little white car.
she played some alternative radio which tyler sang along with at random points through the drive. she loved hearing his voice.
it was so soft and delicate. she loved the rough undertones of his quiet singing.
at this point, they were reaching a middle of nowhere situation. now the road was empty and surrounded by trees.
tyler shivered a little. the thought of being seventeen again, shouting out to the woods to see if anyone was there, and staying among the trees from daylight to sundown.
the small bleeding lines across his wrist throbbed a way they never had been, stupid muscle trauma. his brown eyes quickly became shifty. too close to home.
"jenna, are we almost there?" his thick eyebrows furrowed to look at the dreamy girl next to him.
"yeah, only a few minutes left." she smiled. tyler felt like he could breathe again, the black hole of a pit in his stomach slowly faded.
as jenna's word went, they were pulling into an empty beach type lake. tyler chuckled.
"there's beaches in columbus?" he asked, arching his back from his seat to stream his out. he set the blanket jenna had given him on the floor of the car after unbuckling.
upon opening the doors, the air was fresh and crisp. jenna hugged herself deeper into the large blue hoodie she wore. tyler couldn't help but awe.
the brunette helped pick out the bags from the trunk of the car. they quickly settled down on a spot of sand.
it was like their own little island of isolation.
tyler gazed hazily toward jenna. the sight of her alone sent tyler's head into tornados.
"are you okay, ty?" she asked softly. her blue eyes squinted while she gave a rosy cheeked giggle.
"everything is amazing." he shook his head out of disbelief. goddamn, this girl was an angel.
the two sat in satisfaction while picking amongst the basket of food jenna brought along.
tyler caught a couple grapes in his mouth that the blonde threw to him. she cheered every time he caught one. that made tyler giddy.
"jenna black, you would beat the moon in a pretty contest." tyler chuckled. he bit down on his soft lower lip while his eyes shifted around in sheepishness.
jenna looked tyler in his sweet chocolate eyes with her sky blue ones. her hand was soon to meet with the collar of tyler's shirt. she slowly leaned into the crook of his neck.
"catch me if you can, joseph." she whispered lightly into his ear. she took off toward the water, leaving tyler with an arm full of goosebumps and raised hair.
he let out a laugh before picking himself up from the blanket. he ran straight to the water, kicking up splashes behind him.
the water was freezing cold. not that the pair was expecting anymore from a man made beach in columbus, ohio.
jenna pushed her hands all sorts of directions, making sure to hit tyler with every drop of water possible. the only thing tyler could do was splash back.
soon enough the twos eyes were filled with water, hair was dripping wet, and smiles were wider than they had ever been.
tyler's quickened paces finally caught up with jenna. he quickly snaked his arms around her waist, preventing her from running off again.
he brushed the wet blonde hair from her forehead with a giggle. jenna tried to bury her face in embarrassment.
"can i?" tyler spoke softly. the two were knee deep in freezing cold water, the only thing covering them being their bathing suits under large sweatshirts. not that their clothes were helping anything, they were soaked and sticking to their bodies anyway.
"mhm." jenna nodded while bringing herself closer to tyler. the brunette held her tighter while their lips collided.
the boy felt like heaven on her lips. she was infatuated with how delicate he was with her. every time tyler kissed the blonde, it felt like a whole new experience. his lips were bliss.
jenna pulled back to catch her breath. tyler's forehead still touched hers.
"tyler, please tell me. what are we?" jenna's body tensed a little. tyler watched as her eyes saddened.
"jen, i'm sorry. half the time i'm around you, i get too scared to say anything. do you wanna, like, be my girlfriend or something?" tyler cringed at his choice of word. jenna knew he meant it though.
"i wouldn't want anything more, joseph." the corners of jenna's pink lips quickly curved into a smile. she was quick to meet lips with tyler again.
the kiss was much shorter this time but just as enjoyable. a ghost of tyler's lips still lingered on jenna.
"how about we get home? it's too cold to be out here." tyler suggested while he looked to the sun setting.
jenna nodded. she followed her boyfriend to the car, wrapping herself in towels as well as bombarding tyler with soft towels.
her boyfriend.
"i'll drive. get some rest." tyler smiled.
