Shielding (Todoroki x reader)

18~ We'll save you, little one

(Todoroki's P.O.V)

"Fucking pervert." I muttered to myself in anger. "Todoroki, what're you doing out here?" I turned and saw (Y/n). "Oh. Hey. I was waiting for you." "Oh. Why?" She asked tilting her head like a confused bird. "I was going to visit my mom in the hospital and was wondering if you wanted to join me? She wants to meet you." I said, nervously rubbing the back of my head. "She knows about me? Ok, sure. I'd love too." she said. I let out a sigh of relief and dropped my hand back to my side. We walked in silence for a while, then (Y/n) suddenly stopped, then booked it for a tree. "Wha-?" Said, surprised. I followed her and when I caught up to her, she was crouched under the tree picking flowers. She picked a few more and then held them up in a small bouquet. "Suisen flowers. For your mom." She said, sounding tired. "Is she ok? What's going on?" "Oh, ok. She'll like those." I said. "Stupid, why didn't you ask if she was ok?" We continued the walk in silence, but I felt her hand graze mine. I took her hand and held it, and she gently squeezed my hand, and I squeezed back. I looked over at her, and my breath was taken away. Her hair though still relatively short, was gently flowing in the faint breeze, a soft smile across her pink lips, flowers in hand. "Oh my god... She's so beautiful."  I thought. I felt my face grow warm, and I looked forward again. We walked into the hospital and approached the counter. "Here to see your mom again, Todoroki?" the man at the counter said. "Mhm." "And you brought someone with. I'm sure your mother will be very pleased." He said, then looked (Y/n) up and down with a weird smile. I turned and started walking towards the elevator. (Y/n) stepped in and I joined her. I pressed the button and as we were going up I asked "Do you know him? He was acting weird." "Yeah. I don't really know him, but we've met. As in he was drunk on the train and got a bit too close for comfort." I felt anger bubble up again, and I clenched my fists a bit. "I took care of it though. And if he needs a reminder, I'll gladly give it to him." She continued, detaching a feather, and spinning it. 

We got off the elevator and walked down the hall, arriving at my mom's room. I knocked gently, and I heard my mother's voice call softly "Come in." I slid the door open, and stepped inside, (Y/n) close behind me. "Hello, son. Is that (Y/n)?" I nodded, and (Y/n) moved to be at my side. "Hello, Mrs. Todoroki." she said, visibly nervous. "Please, call me Rei." "Haha, sorry. I brought these from a park nearby." (Y/n) said, handing my mom the bouquet of suisen. "Oh, thank you, (Y/n), how sweet." My mom smiled and set them carefully on the table. (Y/n) and I sat down at the table in the two empty chairs, and my mom asked me "How has your day been, Shoto?" "It's been a pretty good day. We talked about each other's internships, had some training." "Sounds lovely. By the way, how was your internship?" "O-oh! Um, it went pretty well." "No need to be nervous, (Y/n). It's alright." my mom reassured her, looking at (Y/n) and keeping steady eye contact. (Y/n) let out a shaky breath and nodded. "Are you ok? Is it about what happened this morning." I leaned over and asked. She nodded again, then continued on to my  mom about her internship. "My internship went well. I was at Genius Office with Best Jeanist. We didn't learn much there, besides how to do paperwork." (Y/n) joked, and my mom let out a small laugh. "Well, that's too bad. Did anything interesting happen?" "Uh, well we rescued a family. I noticed a tall, strange looking man down the street, and when I described him to Best Jeanist, he told me that he was a dangerous murderer. And when we got there there was a family being cornered by him, and we rescued them." (Y/n) explained. "Wow, that's interesting. I'm glad you got away alright, knowing how Shoto is, he would've been worried out of his mind." Rei said. I felt my face turn red, and I looked down at the table. "Well, I'm the same way with him. I'd do anything in my power to keep him safe." (Y/n) said, emotion filling her voice, and her hand grasped mine under the table. I looked up and saw her face, serious and determined, and my mom's soft, joyous smile. "That makes me so happy to hear." my mom said, then looked out the window. "It's getting late, you two should head home." I looked out and saw the sunset. "Oh yeah." I said. I gave my mom a hug, and my mom hugged (Y/n). 

We walked out to the street, and started walking back. I noticed a small ball of black fluff on the ground looked closer. (Y/n) came closer to see too. "Oh, poor thing. It fell from it's nest... it didn't deserve this." (Y/n) said, picking up the black fluff ball, which I could now see was a raven chick. "I think it's dead..." she said sadly, looking for a place to bury it. "Wait. Let me see." I said, holding out my left hand. She gently set it in my hand, and I activated my quirk a tiny bit, just enough for my hand to be warm. The chick started breathing more steadily and I could feel a tiny heartbeat. "It's still alive. It was just really cold." I said, staring at the chick. "I'm glad it's ok. I think I can take care of it until it's better." (Y/n) said, admiring the small bird in the palm of my hand. I held it for the rest of the walk, and before I handed it to her, she asked "I think we should name it. What do you think?" "Hmm. Karasu?" I offered, earning a giggle from her "You want to name the raven the Japanese word for raven?" "Yeah." I said, 100% serious. "I think it's cute." I said, continuing to stare at the tiny bird. "Ok, I'll take good care of Karasu." she said, gently picking Karasu up and setting it in her hand. "Bye Todoroki! See you tomorrow." She said, then right before she closed the door, Karasu let out a small "EEP!" "Awwww! Karasu wanted to say bye too!" (Y/n) said, with a wide smile. I let out a laugh and waved goodbye. When I got home, I suddenly got a bunch of pictures of Karasu and (Y/n). She had made a tiny nest on her bedside table for it, and there was a video of her trying to feed Karasu. In the video, Karasu was offered a small insect, but refused it, instead trying to take the much too large apple slices that (Y/n) was snacking on. I texted her back.

T: Sweet. Don't ravens eat meat?

Y: They're supposed too, but Karasu won't. Karasu likes kiwi though. 

The last text was followed by a picture of Karasu eating kiwi. 

T: Well, I'm sleepy. Goodnight <3

Y: Goodnight, Todoroki.

T: You can call me by my first name you know. I don't think we have to be so formal, especially if since you've always let me use your first name.

Y: Ok. Goodnight, Shoto. <3
