Shielding (Todoroki x reader)

50~ Exam over

(Midoriya's P.O.V)

I watched happen like it was slow motion, the flames rushed towards Shindo, and I had jumped to save him, but I was too far away to reach him in time. I was terrified for him, but suddenly (Y/n) jumped over and used herself as a shield, completely tanking the attack. I reached them just as the flamed dissipated, and grabbed them by the vests of their costumes and jumped away, screaming out at Shoto and Inasa "Dammit. What are you two doing?! You could've killed them!" and behind me smoke and ashes streamed from (Y/n)'s charred and skeleton-like wings, looking exactly like they did when we got her back from the League of Villains. We crashed into the ground rolling and bouncing over rocks, and I got up and ran to (Y/n) who laid there staring straight up, eyes glazed over in pain and her wings splayed out over the rocks. I fretted over her, but she seemed too much in shock to feel the full force of her injury, because she hauled herself up and tried to crawl back to the fight, looking extremely upset. "Shh, hey, stay still! You're hurt!" I reminded her, holding her back, then turning to see when she was so upset about. Gang Orca had grabbed Todoroki by the neck and we watched as he used his wave attack again, and (Y/n) shouted "No! Shoto! He's hurt, he's not gonna pass the test, let go of me!" weakly struggling and trying to push me away.

 A lot of the time she seems like a distant, brooding, angry kid, destructive for no reason, or suddenly silent and self-isolating, but in moments like this and at the Kamino Ward incident, I realize all she wants is to protect the people around her. Be it from outside threats, or herself. The villains began rushing towards us now that Inasa and Todoroki were out of the way, and I picked up (Y/n) and set her next to Shindo. They're too close. I have to be the front line. I got into my fighting stance, but Shindo lunged forward "I'll take care of this." and the ground crumbled beneath the villains feet. "Whoa, Shindo! I thought you couldn't move because of his blast." I gasped in surprise, and he responded "Well, my extremities are still pretty numb, but I'll bounce back. Soundwaves aren't that bad. Not much different from my vibrations. So I've built up a pretty good tolerance to them. Might be the first time that I've been thankful for that recoil. Anyway. I was trying to get a surprise attack in on that whale! And those two first years ruined it!"  So intense... "But more importantly, I'm doing this for her, I can force myself to recover quicker to protect her if she can do what she did for me. I've tripped the henchman. Now you make sure they're out of the game. We'll split up and get the remaining injured to the shelter." Shindo explained. "Right!" I agreed, then ran into battle. 

(Y/n's P.O.V)

Everything hurts. It hurts so bad. It hurts so bad that my mind feels numb but I can still feel the physical pain. I looked to the side and watch Shindo and Midoriya fight, and through my labored breathing, I said "I.. I need to help... please, let me help.. you." Shindo turned and shook his head and sighed "You have done more than enough for us. You're hurt really badly, just rest there and we'll get you help." "No.. Shoto... he's paralyzed now, and that... Inasa... kid.. keeps fighting with him... I don't want him.. to get hurt. I need to.. help him." I demanded, only managing to get onto all fours before collapsing again. "He's going to be fine. You can't do anything, it's hard, but true. Just stay still." Shindo instructed, and I gave up and watched with my raptor vision as Shoto was dropped to the ground and fell face down in the dirt. My heart dropped, and I laid my face on the ground as well. "Takami, look, look!" Shindo shook my should and I hissed in pain but looked up anyway. Shoto and Inasa had finally worked together and had trapped Orca in a spiral of flames. I stared in awe for a moment, but it was quickly ruined by the villains shooting at Shoto, but he quickly blocked it with an ice wall. Then Midoriya and Ojiro started taking out the villains. One by one, more of my classmates showed up to help, and all I could do was lie there, useless to them. Suddenly, the spiral vanished, and Gang Orca reached for Shoto. I lied there in terror, and at this point had forgotten about the test with how real it all felt. That students were in actual danger if they couldn't fight back well enough. But out of nowhere, as he does, Midoriya jumped down and kicked Gang Orca. "Shindo... I know I can't help, but bring me over there." I demanded, and got a skeptical look from him, but he picked me up and I gritted my teeth and scrunched my face with tears pouring from the pain, and he ran me to the edge of the fight.
