(Peeta POV)

I'm carried into the operating room I let go of Katniss' hand at the doorway.  They take out a syringe of weird liquid that I know will make me sleep through the operation but my instincts get the best of me I jerk away from the syringe making my whole body flood with pain. I realize that I do this, because of the tracker jacker venom that was injected with a syringe. I can feel myself immediately drifting off, but not before they cut the stitches back open to get any left over wood out.

I wake up to an almost empty quiet hospital room. I look to my side to see Katniss siting in a chair holding my hand. She's crying, but she looks a lot better now. I look at the wall behind her seeing a clock saying it was 4 in the morning. I realize my operation was 4 hours, how could it take 4 hours to just take out a few splinters? I lift the blankets on top of me to look at my side, I see more stitches. I ask Katniss, "Why did the operation take so long?" "The coffee table leg was sliced in half making it a sort of spear so it went through your ribs, and it taped a major artery making a small opening for a the blood to get out. They took forever trying to fix it but luckily they did." "When can I go home," I ask. "Tomorrow," she answers, "and by the way that should be a *we* not an I, because I'm not leaving your side until you can go home." I smile remember something, "I told you I will always stay with you."
