Chapter 51

(Katniss POV)
Gale came over to me I could tell he wanted to talk so I walked a few steps away from the group, then kept my path to 13. Gale started talking about getting rid of the awkwardness between Peeta and I, then I interrupted him with the question that had been bugging me all day. "...like I know your in love with Peeta, and I just wanted to apologize for what happened-" I then interrupt with, "So now that Cressida's here are you just going to end things with Johanna for the prettier girl?" I don't realize how rude it sounds until I say it. I know I wouldn't have said this if it wasn't for Johanna having scars and bald spots from being tortured in the Capitol during the war. "Well Cressida is very pretty Katniss, but Johanna grew up in the districts, and she isn't very emotionally stable so your answer is no Katniss, I'm not going to end things with Johanna just because she's not as pretty as Cressida," Gale says in an angry tone. We join the group again and walk for several hours before Annie starts humming a familiar tune. I almost unknowingly start to sing it softly. Then Johanna and Peeta join in Gale starts in on the second third line then the mockingjays join in then we're almost yelling it, "...Are you are you coming to the tree where a dead man called out for his love to flea strange things did happen here no stranger would it be if we met at midnight in the hanging tree..." after we sing it a couple more times it's dead silent the sun is showing the last of its light, disappearing behind the horizon. My legs are aching from the long walk. I finally call it as the darkness of night grows, " Ok guys lets find a couple of good trees and set up for the night." We find a few trees grown only about 5 and a half feet away from each other. The branches so close together you can't even see a single star. We all take out the a sheet and blanket we planed to bring, we set the sheet on the ground and us it to separate us from the cold grass and dirt beneath us. Annie does something different, she finds a skinny tree and takes a long rope out of the backpack, we all watch curiously. She ties the rope above a knot on the tree so the rope will stay, and then one side of her sheet to the rope, then she cuts the rope, and finds another skinny tree only a few feet away from the other one and does the same thing making a hammock. She grabs out of her backpack her and Finns dinner. Afterwards she tosses the rope to Johanna, and we all do the same until the rope is half the length it was before. We eat dinner and then decide to go to bed, after 5 minutes I realize Peeta isn't there to comfort me. So I untie my hammock, and retie it right next to his on the same trees. We realized we were a bit to squished together but we dealt with it. I'm almost asleep when Peeta says, "I love you," I drift of to sleep with his voice echoing in my head.
