Chapter 6

(Haymich POV)

Effie and I always had a thing for each other. Just before we got Katniss, Finnick, and Beetee from the 75 Hunger Games, before the war started I saved Effie. I knew the Capitol would capture her and kill her so I dressed her in tattered clothes from district 12, and dyed her hair. She made it out of the Capitol before the bombs even hit 12. We had started our secret relationship when I saved her from the Capitol.

I remember helping her get bobby pins out of her hair from wearing one of her many brightly colored wigs. I asked her if maybe she would like to try going out on a date sometime, she cheerily answered with yes. I happily finished helping her with getting rid of the rest of the bobby pins. She took off her pink wig to reveal lime green hair dyed probably every month. She then dyed her hair brown, and washed off every bit if makeup took off every necklace, ring, bracelet, and earrings she had.

She looked like a totally different person. I actually kind of liked the the new Effie she looked normal for once, but she was still the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. I snuck her into district 13 without getting caught, and after only a few days of sneaking her extra food the bombs hit 12. Then Katniss' mom and sister where there, and I knew I had to get Katniss out. Mrs. Everdeen took care of Effie when I left to get Katniss I hated to leave her.

Especially when we had just been secretly married, and I knew she was already a couple weeks pregnant. I kissed her, and told her I loved her before leaving to go get Katniss out of the games.
