Rose on Fire

Chapter 26

(Peeta POV)
I wake up, still with my arms hugging Katniss to me, it has become an instinct sort of, every night I go to sleep with her wrapped in my arms and wake up the same way. I look down to where her head rests peacefully on my chest, she has her left hand near her chest, a pearl ring looks natural, fitting perfectly on her finger. She moves to adjust herself in a more comfortable position, but ends up moving her head to far left, light from a window hits her face, waking her instantly. "Good morning," I say. "Good morning," she replies. A telephone on the wall rings, Katniss and I stare at it until it stops. A voicemail starts, "Katniss, Peeta, we know your on this train, because Beetee slipped small tracking pills into the drinks at Emily's party," Haymich's voice whispers through the phone. "Emily and I are okay, but they got Effie," Haymich's voice cracks at saying Effie's name, so I know he's been a crying wreck. "Beetee is here with me, and is tracking you guys, and all the hovercrafts filled with the people of district 2, their coming, and they'll be  there in 25 min, come to the lake in district 12, don't lead them here though." I leap out of the bed in panic, Katniss follows quickly. I throw the comforter of the bed off, and grab the sheet. I grab all the clothes in the drawers, and through them in the center of the sheet. "Go warn the others," I say to Katniss, she nods and runs out the door I grab the locket from my second game, and Katniss's pin that I brought for her. 10 minutes after the call: every one is packed with food, and clothes. We uncover the jeeps from their branch, and grass camouflage. Gale takes some sort of key, and unlocks the trunks, he pulls out 4 M6 guns and 3 small boxes of extra bullets. The 3 boxes are for Finnick, Gale, and I, but Johanna, and Katniss shoot Gale a death glare for not giving them extra ammo. 15 minutes after the call: I can see the hover crafts just above the horizon, every second they get miles closer. I can hear the small buzzing of the hovercrafts reaching speeds faster than the speed of sound. "GO!" Finnick yells, noticing the hovercrafts. We all pile in the 2 jeeps, Katniss, and I ride in one jeep alone. We head off, going at speeds up to 112 mph. There is silence, as we drive the long journey from the outsides of district 2 to district 12. I can tell Katniss is terrified, just by her whole body looking tensed up. I grab her hand and start massaging the top of it until the muscles relax, and she seems calm, but still terrified at the fact that she is running for her life. That's when I realize why Beetee was acting weird at Emily's party.
