T H E few days following Halloween, Charlie came down with a terrible cold. Aside from bringing her brother to school, she stayed in bed for the few days.
Bucky Barnes had visited the coffee shop both days, and it was on the third day he decided to go and visit her to make sure that she was alright.
The entire walk he was doubtful, turning back twice before he ended up knocking on the old screen door to the Grant household. In his hand was a bag of snacks; random things he had found at the corner store that might make her smile.
He was nervous.
His bomber jacket was zipped all the way up to block out the early November air. His hair was tied back and a baseball cap was on his head.
The front door opened and Charlie squinted through the screen door. "Bucky?"
He hesitated, immediately regretting coming here. "Hi... sorry, I uh, Addie told me you were sick and I wanted to see how you were feeling."
Charlie coughed and crossed her arms. The air was freezing. "Terrible." Then she opened the screen door and nodded her head. "You can come in. It's cold out."
Bucky stepped through the door and then shut it behind him, making sure to lock it. Charlie walked down the stairs and he followed, averting his eyes from the tight leggings she wore.
"I'm sorry to come unannounced." Bucky said when they walked into the TV room. Blankets were scattered around the couch and tissues were decorating the coffee table.
"No, it's okay." She coughed again and sat down. "I was watching This is Us."
He noticed how hoarse her voice was and he was suddenly overtaken with the need to take care of her. She had already thrown the blankets over her body and was leaning against the back of the couch. He thought she looked adorable even though she was sick.
"You're watching what?"
She half smiled. "An old show from before the decimation. What's in the bag?"
He felt self conscious about it now. "I just got you some things since you were sick. Whenever I was sick Steve would always bring me some things..." His voice trailed off.
