"Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow"Dean Martin
Let it Snow!• • •
S N O W started to fall in the early AM, and by the time that Oliver Grant woke from his slumber it had created a blanket across the town. The house was warm with heat, but had that chill in the air that always came with snowfall.
And Oliver sat for only a moment, his tired mind putting his memories of last night together, before his eyes widened and he jumped from the bed.
Dressed in only his Christmas themed pajamas, he ran from the room and down the hall to the living room. And when he saw the many presents underneath the tree, he couldn't help but squeal in delight.
"Holy smokes it's Christmas!" He yelled.
Then he turned on his heel and charged towards the bedroom at the end of the hall, pushing past the door and jumping onto the bed where two bodies slept.
"Wake up, wake up. Santa came!" Oliver yelled, climbing over to his sister and shaking her away. "Santa came Charlie, it's time to get up." Then he looked at Bucky and grabbed his metal arm, pulling. "Wake up, wake up. It's present time."
Charlie slowly sat up with tired eyes, having spent the better part of the night setting up for this early morning activity. A yawn took over her and she stretched her tired body.
"Jesus, what time is it?" She finally mumbled.
"It's time to get up." Oliver said with excitement when he saw the former assassin slowly wake up. Oliver grabbed his metal hand and started to pull him. "Come on, come on. There's lots of presents to be opened. Santa came!"
Bucky allowed himself to be pulled from the bed, and with only a look of help directed towards Charlie, he was whisked away from the peaceful sleep they once shared.
In the living room, Oliver brought Bucky to sit down in front of the tree; oblivious to the fact that Bucky had helped Charlie set them all up hours ago.
"Aren't they so pretty?" Oliver asked, leaning his head against Bucky's thick arm.
"Mhm." He mumbled through his tired state.
Charlie then walked into the room, having taken a second to put on a bra and socks. "One present and then breakfast." Charlie told him.
"Okay I pick this one." Oliver grabbed the biggest box he could find. Within a second wrapping paper had been decimated and left in scrapes on the floor. And then he laughed with excitement over a toy he had wished for for months.
Then it was breakfast time, and Oliver hurriedly made himself a bowl of cereal at the kitchen table.
"I was hoping he would wake us up after nine o'clock this year." Charlie said with another yawn.
"He's excited."
"You're telling me." She sat down on the couch and crossed her legs underneath her. "Aren't you excited to see what Santa brought you?"
"I don't think I've managed to make the good list just yet."
"Well, we will just have to wait and see, won't we?" Charlie said with a smirk.
Bucky's eyes narrowed at the young woman. "Charlie, what did you do?"
"Nothing, nothing. I didn't do anything." She laughed. Then she grabbed the camera from the end table and turned it on. "We always record Christmas morning. It's tradition."
Bucky only stared at her, their past conversation still lingering in his head. He knew that she had something planned but he wasn't sure quite what it was yet.
Before he could wonder too long about it, Oliver came back with even more energy then before and sat down on the floor. "Okay, I'm ready!"
Charlie started to record from her spot on the couch.
"Bucky sit next to me. There's lots of presents with your name on it." Oliver told the older man.
Bucky looked down at him with confusion before he looked up at the older sister. "Charlie."
"Hey, don't look at me. Santa must have gotten your list or something." Charlie said with a smile.
And that was how they spent Christmas morning. Oliver in a state of excitement, yelling and squealing over his gifts and thanking Santa after each one. Full of innocence and bliss, and the love of his family.
Bucky spent the morning sitting next to the little man, being given gift after gift with a little note that read Santa in Charlie's messy handwriting.
And after what seemed like hours, though only had been an hour and a half, the presents were finally finished being opened and Oliver ripped open a box of legos to start playing with.
With the camera shut off, Charlie rose from her spot on the couch and stretched. "I'm going to get something to eat." She ruffled Oliver's hair before disappearing into the kitchen.
And she smiled, because she knew that Bucky would follow her.
She was right.
"You didn't have to get me Christmas presents, Charlie." He told her while she stirred a cup of tea.
"I didn't."
"Charlie."
"Santa did, I didn't do anything." Charlie said. She tried her best not to smile at the man that held a big piece of her heart.
Bucky gave her a look before giving up. He felt overwhelmed with how much she cared for him, like he didn't deserve it. But he loved it. He loved the little gifts she bought him, mostly clothes and candies, and old CDs and movies she thought he'd like. He loved them all and he loved the fact that she thought of him.
He crossed the room slowly, to give her a hug. To somehow show her how appreciative he was for everything that she's done for him the past five months.
Charlie welcomed the hug with a flutter in her stomach. Her arms wrapped around his neck and she stood on her toes to move closer to him.
"Merry Christmas, Bucky." She told him when they parted.
He didn't say anything to her words, and instead leaned down to kiss her ever so lightly. It only last a few seconds, but to Charlie, it was forever.
And then they heard Oliver yelling from the other room, "Can we go and play in the snow?"
Can I just say that I am very much in love with Bucky Barnes?? I just feel like you guys need to know that
