Kaylan P.O.V.

The bell rang signaling the end of the school day. I was at my locker talking to my friends, Jessica and Taylor when I saw our other friend, Natasha, walking towards us.

"Ugh," Natasha scoffed. "Nerd alert."

I turned my head in the direction she was looking and saw Nash Grier making his way over. I looked back at my friends, "Be nice," I said. Once he made it to us, the girls turned the other way. I looked at him and gave him an apologetic smile, "Hey Nash."

"Hey, K-Kaylan," he said nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.

"What's up?"

"Um, d-do you wanna hang out some time? I m-mean, you don't have to if you don't want to."

I looked back at my friends who were snickering. I turned back to Nash and smiled sweetly, "I would love to, Nash."

The laughs behind me stopped and Nash's eyes looked like they were about to pop out of his head, "R-Really?" I nodded. "Cool, then I'll pick you up at 7. Bye, Kaylan."

I waved goodbye to him and turned to my friends, "You guys are so mean."

"You're not really going to go out with him, are you?" asked Taylor.

"Yeah, I am. He asked and he's really sweet. Why not?"

"I'll tell you 'why not'," Jessica said. "You're at the top of the totem pole. You know where he is?" Before I could answer, she spoke, "He's at the way bottom. You're gonna ruin your social life."

I swung my bag over my should, "I don't care." I walked away from the girls, got in my car, and drove home.

*4 hours later*

I heard my doorbell ring. "I'll get it!" called my mother.

I knew it had to be Nash, so I checked myself in the mirror once more. I was wearing a light orange top that stopped above my bellybutton and the sleeves went up to my elbows. I decided to wear white jeans with a thin orange belt and orange sandals. I walked downstairs and say Nash standing against the door talking and laughing with my mom.

He looked amazing. His hair was spiked up and he was wearing a blue and orange plaid shirt  with a white tee underneath and white pants. He was wearing blue vans, too. He looked up at me and smiled. His smile was dazzling.

"Hey, Kay," he said, without stuttering. Where did all this sudden confidence come from? "You ready to go?"

I nodded my head, still surprised at the young man in front of me.

"Bye, guys. Have fun. It was nice meeting you, Nash."

"Nice meeting you, too," he replied and we went to his car.

"So where are we going?" I asked as he opened the passenger door for me and I got in.

"Do you like the beach?"

"Yes!"

He smiled and drove off.
