He's just... Out sick. That's all.
Tamaki swallowed thickly as he walked into school. He didn't have a bad feeling, which confused him, as he — as Mirio worded it — had a sort of six sense when it came to the guy.
But, he was always greeted with an energetic hello. Today there was none. He didn't even see Mirio around.
Maybe he's just running late...
No, that's not like Mirio.
He was always at school a few minutes early.
Sometimes Tamaki wondered if he got there that early just so they could walk together and not miss one another on the way in.
Kind of wished that was what was going on. That made him happy; it made him feel loved. Feel like he mattered.
At the same time, he didn't want Mirio to waste his time, but he was getting better with those thoughts.

The day went on, and Tamaki had contemplated texting Mirio to ask if he was alright a few times. He hasn't seen him.
He didn't, though.
For two reasons.....
One, he was worried he would bother Mirio.
Two, he didn't have a bad gut feeling.

The gut feeling was what was confusing him. Tamaki could almost always tell when something was up with Mirio; if he'd given himself a paper cut or bumped into the corner of a wall, Tamaki would get a little lurch in his stomach. He didn't know why. He had it since he met the kid.
But he hadn't gotten anything like that and it was really his only saving grace that Mirio was, indeed, not dead. Maybe he was mad at him for something. But Tamaki couldn't think of what would ever make Mirio mad at any one.

It was after school and he still hadn't seen Mirio. So, Tamaki decided to go to the art room. He always went there when he needed to get something off his chest. He was in the hallway. He was alone, here, he couldn't hear any footsteps and the only breathing he could hear was his own.
He pushed open the door and heard breathing.
Tamaki flattened his pointy ears out, something he learned he could do very easily, like a cat, and listen closely.
Breathing. Quiet breathing. Whoever it was, they were making a show of being quiet.
He poked his head into the room slowly, looking around. "Hello....?" He asked quietly, then felt a lurch in his gut and the next thing he knew, two strong arms were around his waist and he was being flung and spun around in the air.
He could hear a painfully familiar voice scream in his ear.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAMAKI!!!"

Tamaki whipped around once he was let back onto his feet, focusing on his breathing, as that scared the hell out of him.
Mirio stood there, in all his I-just-walked-through-a-wall glory, happy as ever. Needless to say, he kept his eyes up, holding up his hand to make that an easier task."M-mirio"
"Happy Birthday!!" He shouted again. Tamaki looked confused, and the blond took a moment. "Don't tell me you forgot your own birthday!!" He shouted, turning only his body as he grabbed his pants from the floor. At least to put those on.
The indigo haired boy just shuddered out of meaningless nonsense, unable to really form a sentence from a lot of things that were currently happening.
One, Mirio was indeed not angry at him
Two, Tamaki had just realized he had forgot his own goddamn birthday.
And, it was kind of dawn on him that Mirio'd grabbed and spun him without clothes on for the sake of the surprise.

Once Mirio'd dressed him self, he carefully took Tamaki's small hand in his own, leading him to a different part of the room.
"No matter. I bought you a bunch of stuff!"
"W-wait Mirio.. that's not.." he really did. Mirio really did get him a few presents.
Tamaki wasn't sure why his throat closed up or why his eyes got wet, but he didn't protest, thanking Mirio softly.
