So in this AU people have a black mark where your soulmate will touch them for the first time and that changes into bright colours once they've touched. The crew is all in College.

Luffy POV
I stood in front of my mirror. I never had a mark. My skin was barren, except for the occasional scar. To make up for this I always tried to be the kindest I could even if I didn't have a soulmate. I still want to make friends. But there were others who weren't kind. I'd been bullied for not having a mark at my last school. This time things would be better. At this school I wouldn't let them know I was different.

I surveyed my new surroundings. Everyone already had their friend groups so I decided to sit at the back where a kid sat alone drawing. "Hi, I'm Luffy."

"Usopp. Guessing you're new?" The boy had a black hand mark on his arm.

"Yep. Woooooah!" I saw that Usopp had drawn an awesome pirate ship.

"You like it? I'm thinking of making a comic about pirates." Usopp looked as if he was trying to be smug but the genuine enthusiasm gave away his excitement.

"That's awesome."

"Alright class. Time for registration. Now, do we have-" The door opened and in came a scowling boy with green hair. His shirt was untucked and he wore a hoodie under his blazer, giving him a delinquent vibe. "Nice of you to show up Mr. Roronoa," The boy just continued to scowl as he sat at an empty desk.

"Who's that?" I whispered

"Zoro Roronoa, you probably don't want to get mixed up with him, he's said to be in a gang. Although, he is in fencing club like me."

"Fencing club? Is it fun?"

"Yeah, it's run by a youth club down the road. I'm not that good but it's a good place for making friends."

"I'll join then."

After school I met Usopp and we headed to the youth club. The other kids already there were setting up so they joined in and Usopp introduced Me to his friends. They all seemed pretty nice, but a little strange. I noticed Zoro arrives just before club started. The instructor had decided to pair the better fencers with the worse one's which was meant with a lot of grumbling. The instructor brought Me over to Zoro.

"Since Luffy here is new, you'll teach him. You are the best after all."  Zoro tsked at this, but all the same he showed Me how to grip my sword and corrected his stance. I noticed the black mark on Zoro's right palm. We continued to practice on, and Zoro grew agitated.

"You're quick and strong but you're clumsy. Your form's in tatters, and you're defending is a mess," he said bluntly. I felt the need to prove myself.

"It's my first time."

The instructor came over, watching us spar. "I think Luffy will need more one on one training. Zoro, are you happy to continue this next week?"

"Fine," said Zoro, packing up his things.

And so three weeks went past like this. At school everyone had started to hang out with their sparring buddies. There was some sixth formers, Robin and Brook, and also Sanji who was also in year 11 and apparently Zoro's biggest rival. It was great to have such accepting friends, although I still hadn't told any of them about my lack of a mark.

Zoro began sitting with them on occasion somewhere during the second week of me being there. He mostly taunted Sanji but he did occasionally join in the conversation. He would always sit close to me which became a comfort to me.

3rd person POV
Through sparring at fencing club we are closer. With Zoro's help his defense got better but his form still lacked... and occasionally made stranger due to Luffy's flexibility. These were some of the best days of Luffy's life. Zoro was always full of energy, never relenting as he taught Luffy the hard way. They'd exchange snarky comments, something that always got a smile out of Zoro. Some days they'd laugh at dorky jokes until they were in stitches, or team up to steal food from Sanji. There were days, filled with Zoro's warm smile that Luffy never tired of. Then, one night, they were the last one's at the club.

"So why'd you move schools?" Zoro asked as Luffy put away the last of the gear.

"I got bullied pretty bad but I fought back so I eventually got expelled for starting fights."

"You seem like a nice kid and you're way more sociable than me. Why'd they bully you?" Zoro sounded genuinely concerned.

"You have to promise not to tell anyone." Luffy trusted Zoro, they hadn't been friends for long but Luffy couldn't explain the bond he felt.

"Promise," said Zoro seriously.

"I don't have a mark."

"What?" Zoro raised an eyebrow. Luffy ran a hand through his black hair sheepishly.

"A soulmate mark, I don't have one. Everyone thought I was a freak."

"Don't stress it" said Zoro, rubbing Luffy's head. Zoro froze, pulling away his hand and staring at his now multicolored palm. "...hair," he said stunned. Luffy rushed to get out his phone. The front camera revealed that his hair was now multicoloured.

"Zoro," Luffy breathed. His heart was racing.

"We're..." He hugged Zoro tight burying his face in his chest.

"I'm so glad it's you!"

"Really?" laughed Zoro. Luffy pulled away.

"Yes! I thought I'd be alone forever. I tried to accept it but you, well, you made that so hard."

"I'm sorry for that." Zoro stroked Luffy's hair, still disbelieving. He leaned closer, swallowing nervously and looking at Luffy's lips. "Can I?" he said softly.

Luffy leaned forward into the kiss. It was sweet, both of them unsure but they knew they could figure it out together.
