TW: Not much, sorta bullying, unfair judgement, a teacher being verbally abusive. Am I losing my angsty touch? :P
Roman shouldered his bag nervously, and Remus practically dragged him to the school. Roman made sure the ear plugs were safely in his ear, then checked the 'sound box'. He and Remus walked through the gates as Roman got his schedule back. It's been a few months since he lost his hearing, and during that gap of deafness and going to school were tests.
He put his bag in his locker and collected his books and stationery. He waved goodbye to Remus as the two headed for homeroom. As he sat down he heard a cold voice sneer, "Why are you wearing earphones?"
Roman paled and tried to explain, "They're not earphones, they-"
The teacher ripped them out and started yelling at him. Which Roman had no reaction to as he was deaf and was staring intently at the hearing device. The teacher kept yelling, but Roman had absolutely no reaction.
He stood up and wrote on a piece of paper shakily, 'I need that to hear'
The teacher was not pleased he screamed louder, not that Roman could hear it. He fiddled nervously with his jacket. The teacher seemed to call somebody and the principal came in. She looked at Roman, then at the hearing device. She scowled and snatched the device from the teacher's hands. She handed it to Roman.
Roman put it back in position.
"Thank you.." He mumbled to the principal shakily. The principal smiled kindly before warning the homeroom teacher that he was not allowed to take or touch anything from students except for notes and phones.
During English class he heard somebody whisper to their friend,"Hey how come HE gets to listen to music?"
Roman focused on his work, anxiousness rising at the many eyes on his hearing device. His hands were shaking slightly. He'd never had had many friends even before.
During lunch he felt a kid take out his earbuds. He whizzed around and the kid threw it to the ground. Roman saved it mid-fall. He put them back in and ran. He heard them chasing and he ran like a demon was coming to steal his soul.
He crashed into somebody the collision was so sudden, his listening device falling out of his ears and onto the ground. Roman frantically knelt down and saw it was broken. He slumped against the wall.
He couldn't hear the guy he crashed into kneeling next to him and asking questions. He couldn't hear the approaching feet on the asphalt. He couldn't hear anything. It was a silent world. He buried his face in his knees and cried. He didn't care if it felt sudden and babyish, all the bottled up emotions just poured out. He cried because he'd never hear laughter by his own. He cried because no normal person would understand. He cried because the world was silent. He cried.
Cliffhanger! Don't worry, this isn't over! Maybe one or two more one-shots to complete this Silent World ^w^
