Rugby isn't just a sport it's a lifestyle. My ex boyfriend found that out the hard way. He loved rugby but not in the way I did. Rugby was my life. It always has been.
I started playing when I was about 11, I found a love for it. I started playing in school then eventually played for my city in the junior team. As I got older, I dedicated more time and effort to Rugby. My inspiration was Johnny Wilkinson, I wanted to be as good or better than him. I always played the fly half position. I was naturally talented with kicking and scoring conversions. suppose that came from my football days. When I was 18 I got scouted for England under 21, thinking I would play this for a few years but never be good enough for the England Squad. That's when I met my boyfriend - Harry. He was great, eventually joined the Navy. We didnt split on good terms but he hated it because every time he came home I was training or playing a match. He would only be home for like 2 weeks every 6-9 months. He hated how most days I wouldn't be around, I wouldn't ever make an exception for when he was home, I still insisted on going to every training session and doing my daily run. His parents always made snide comments about it but he was living his dream and I was hoping for mine. His parents were never supportive of my choices in life. I never earned much money and that was their problem, they thought I was with Harry for his money. But in reality, I never used his money. I always spent my money on him.
When I turned 21 I got scouted for England and that's when my life turned upside down. I couldn't hold any commitments because all I did was train, trying to be the best I could ever be. I spent a lot more time in London. Boys were intimidated by me, I was broad and slightly muscley. Of course this didn't go well with my 5 ft 4" height.
When I moved to loughborough, very young, the girls moved with me and we was scouted for their rugby team. The girls are my life I dont have much family around so the only family I have was the girls. When we first moved we lived together then we all brought our own houses since the girls had a few relationships and needed their own space.
Of course women rugby players didn't get paid that well, so I had to hold down a part time job at the same time to afford to live. That part time job was coaching children's rugby ages 3-18.
I never thought one day it would cause my world to be flipped.
