"Me and Amelia would like to thank everyone for coming and share this special day with us" he started with the usual pleasantries.
"Dont get me wrong mine and Amelia's relationship hasnt been the dream. We have had ups and downs, exs come back and haunt us and many arguments. I was foolish at the start. I had watched her on the pitch many of times and yet every time she amazed me. We all know she gives me a run for my money" I couldnt help but laugh, as the room filled with laughter "The first day I picked up Oliver from his mini training, I can remember every moment of it. When I walked to the pitch she was standing there focused on the session. I stood there and of course Ollie shouted me before I could even say something" Owen ruffled Ollie's head
"I didnt know what to say. So introduced myself and when she turned round and said hi, I cant explain the feeling, I had butterflies. I felt like a teenager with a crush. Ollie at this point already loved her, everytime I seen him he talked about this Amelia and how he loved her training sessions. Of course Oliver invited her to ice cream and that's when I knew I had to get to know her more. I confessed my love when I was absolutely slaughtered. I couldnt blame the drink because that's how I truly felt. We had that brief time where we didnt speak but that's when I realised how much I needed you! I never stopped thinking about you, but I was scared I would hurt you. I know I havent been the perfect person you deserve and I'll never be perfect. But I can promise I will be there every day, whether you need me or not. I promise to protect you from everything I can. Finally I promise to love and cherish you every second you breathe. You are my person! You are my merideth to my derek!" Only a selection of people got the greys anatomy reference. Which made me melt in my seat. "So now the soppy bits are over with, let's celebrate this the proper Farrell way!" The room cheered and Owen sat down next to me moving Ollie on his lap.
The drinks started flowing and the music started pumping. The children had already taken over the dance floor, kicking balloons around and running round the floor. The lights dimmed down and it started to turn into a proper party "can the bride and groom take the dance floor for their first dance" the words I been dreading all night. Owen took my hand and lead me to the dance floor.
Lucky by Jason Mraz played through the speakers. "I am lucky to have a wife and a best friend like you Amelia" Owen whispered in my ear. I completely lost myself in the moment, forgetting everyone was here. All I could focus on was Owen. I was lucky to have him and I wouldnt change him for the world. My hands were placed on his shoulders as his were on my waist. Near the end of the song, other people started to join the dance floor. I could see Abbi with Ben and Charly with Ellis. Who would have thought 5 years ago, the three of us would be here today all happy with a full time rugby career. Oliver of course joined me and Owen, Owen picked him up and he had one arm round my shoulders and one round Owen's.
The song finished "Amelia?" I turned to my dad. "Can I have this dance?" My dad stood there all hopeful! Owen gave me the nod and I joined my dad, leaving Owen on the dance floor. Of course Colleen soon came over and snatched him up. "Amelia, I'm so proud of you! You are so happy and it's been tough but you're still smiling and look how happy that little boy is!" My dad looked over at Oliver who now was running round with Blake. "I havent been around and I'm sorry but it looks like you didn't need me" he nervously laughed. "I'll always need you Dad!" I laughed and he kissed me on the cheek. "You're still my little princess" "always" never in a million years I thought I would get to this with my dad.
The songs changed quicker than I could even get into them. Another top up of prosecco, who could blame me! Of course everyone was starting to feel the intoxication of alcohol except from Abbi of course. The macerana came on and Who would have guessed that the whole england rugby squad would be dancing to this! Nearly everyone in the room was doing it. I was stood in between my dad and sister, Owen was in front of me and of course Oliver and Blake closing any free space between me and Owen. I got the occasional "shake that booty wifey" from a very drunk Owen, whose tie had been loosened and his top button undone.
The night was slowly coming to an end and everyone was absolutely wasted. Signs of a good night. The staff at the venue was trying to push us out the door. "Shall we go and enjoy the rest of our night Mrs Farrell?" Owen's drunk face tried to raise an eyebrow and give me a cheeky grin.
"Of course Mr Farrell" I'll never get used to this Mrs Farrell business.
