I got back to training as quick as I could. I missed the first game of the season but I was back in for the second. Charly had her little girl, Gracie Mae Genge, she had Charlys ginger curly hair and Ellis brown eyes. The twins were getting big already, it's only been two months and they're already little chunkers. Ollie has been spending a lot more time with Holly but he was happy, that's the main thing.
"Owen I really dont want to go" I was adamant I was not going to the Saracens Christmas party, Charly and Ellis wasnt going and obviously Ben wasnt going to be there. "Were both the captains we have to show our faces at least" I huffed at his response, he was right. Charly, Ellis and Ben agreed to have the boys, five children to look after, 4 of them under 2 that's going to be a handful. Owen was getting annoyed with me as I never wanted to leave the boys, i literally left them for an hour while in training that's it. Saracens were good to us and changed training so we didnt both have to be out the house at the same time.
I put on my happiest face and walked into the party, the smell of alcohol hit me straight away "hey how you doing? Havent seen you much since you nearly gave birth in my arms" Mako laughed "yeah I'm good thanks!" I suddenly felt quite embarrassed. The girls grabbed me before I could do anything else. Abbi of course was already here, and very tipsy.
"Hows the twins?" Some of the girls shouted over the music "yeah, just rather be with them right now" I laughed, but i wasnt joking. "Have a night off you deserve it, theyve got it under control" Abbi slurred in my ear. Abbi scurried away to the bar, this is why we always go out together! She slammed shots down on the table "come on Farrell, two are yours" I rolled my eyes at her and shot back the drinks.
"Quit being serious and enjoy the night" Abbi pulled me up on the dance floor and started dancing. I let my hair down completely, since having the twins I forgot to have fun. As usual, the Vinupola brothers joined us. "Abbi, I've missed this" I shouted down her ear, I completely blanked out any responsibilities I had and enjoyed myself.
The night went on and this "one drink to show our faces" went completely out the window. "Abbi ring Ben and see if my babies are ok" Abbi scrambled for her phone and we slowly walked outside. The phone rang and Ben didnt pick up. We kept ringing and he eventually picked up.
"What's up babe?" He sounded panicked. "Its only me, hows my little spuds" I could sense the eye roll "they're asleep, they've been fed and bathed" "you're a good egg Ben" he chuckled at my last words. "Go enjoy your night!" "Yes Boss"
"Happy now?" Abbi didnt even let me answer before she put her hand over my mouth "did you hear that?" "Hear what?" "Shh" she tip toed to the edge of the car park and signalled for me to follow her.
The shouting become more audible "NO! You cant leave me again, I need you" i recognised the voice but i couldnt picture who it was "you left me, we wouldnt be in this situation if it wasnt for you. I gave you the world and you still wanted more. I loved you more than life its self" I couldnt not know that voice "we can be happy again? Those babies should have been ours" I could hear the hurt in her voice "No I'm the happiest I've been ever. My babies! I'm glad I've got them they're the best thing in my life as well as my wife. Everytime you see me happy you try and screw it up" and with that the car sped away.
Abbi looked at me, we ducked behind the Bush as the footsteps got closer. I felt like I was in some kind of movie. "Why can I never be happy?" He sighed "Why does something always try and screw it up" he started pacing. I couldnt bare it. "I need my boys" I heard him say and my heart sank. He scrolled through his phone and put the phone to his ear.
My phone started vibrating in my handbag, my drunk disoriented brain couldnt find it "girls?" Weve been caught. He stretched his hand out to me and Abbi and helped us up "do I even want to ask?" I couldnt help but laugh, Abbi mirrored my laugh.
"Why you out here?" Owen questioned us like we were children "just checked up on our sons. Why are you out here?" I narrowed my eyes at him "just needed some air" he lied, how could he lie to me? Abbi cocked her eyebrow at him "air, hmm. So why were you up there?" She pointed to the distance "just walked around the car park" how can he stand there and lie to my face.
We went back in the party and I kept my distance from Owen. "How can he lie to you?" Abbi was more shocked than I was. "Its alright, I trust him" i do, but these doubts ran through my mind. The night went on and the events just blurred in my mind. Everytime we are happy something tries to wreck it up.
"Ready to go home babe?" Owen wrapped his arms round my waist "yeah" I mumbled. "Abs come on" I grabbed Abbi's arm, she did whine a little bit. The taxi home was silent except from Abbi dancing to herself. When we got back all the children were asleep, Charly and Ellis asleep in the spare room and Ben on the sofa, because of the twins they all stayed at mine.
I admired the twins, how can the cutest things come from someone so messed up? I began to sober up and the moment played through my head "I loved you more than life itself"
Am I just overthinking? Or was the lie covering up something?
