We both said our goodbyes to the family. "You'll have to come again soon, Amelia. We fly out back to Ireland soon, so well go for coffee before that. We really enjoyed seeing you" I smiled "of course" I'm not sure I would be coming back again. "Remember what I said Amelia" I nodded as Owen cocked his eyebrow at me and I shook him off. I'm just his best friend but I dont know how much longer I could be that for.
We had to drop Oliver to Holly's as me and Owen were back training tomorrow which I'm dreading. We started heading home. I started to text the girls.
Hey!
I'm on my way home, fancy coming round for a bottle of wine? I think I need it! So much to tell!
Xxx
Of course Abbi was the first to answer and couldnt say no, the moment she got my text she rushed out the house to get a bottle or two of wine. Girly night it is. Oliver was asleep within minutes of the journey starting, I could feel myself needing a nap too. "Dont get too comfy, I think we should talk and this way you cant get out of it. Plus what did my mum mean?" his voice sounded stern. "I don't think we have anything to talk about, were just best friends and that's all well be" he placed his hand on my leg. "We both know that's absolute rubbish. You meant what you said" I placed my hand on his. It felt so right, the pit in my stomach turned into butterflies.
"Well did you mean what you said?" He nodded slowly. "Every word of it. Drunken words sober thoughts" he always managed to make me smile even when my whole body had goosebumps. This is just a dream right? I'm just taking a nap in the car and I'll wake up and well go our separate ways. I really didnt know how to respond. I was on cloud nine.
"Daddy, can I stay with you and Amelia tonight?" Oliver started to wake up. "Not tonight son, maybe another night" he whined and then started snoring again. The cute baby snores left his mouth. I couldnt help but think about if me and Owen had a child. Would it be like Oliver? I shook the idea out of my head. I needed to stop thinking about me and Owen as a couple. The way Oliver said Daddy and Amelia got the butterflies going. It sounded so right.
"Anyway, where was we?" I shrugged. "How much of that night do you remember honestly?" I asked. His lips didnt move. "Majority of it, but it's blurry and I'm just trying to piece it all together" I moved to face him even though he was driving. "Did we urm you know...." his face turned red. "Do you really need an answer when you have proof?" He ran his finger down the side of my neck. Tingles were sent through my body "You started it not me" this is my fault? Great the first time and I dont remember any of it. "Oh" I didnt know what to say to him. I really wish I could remember. I remembered Charlys motto of 'try before you buy' but I couldnt even remember the trying.
The car journey consisted of Owen trying to make jokes to lighten the mood. But I ended all falling asleep again! Owen's hand didnt leave my thigh, only to change gear.
Owen dropped me home first, he didnt want any more grief from Holly. He unpacked my bags from the car. We shared a very awkward hug as he whispered "we are more than best friends, we both know it" I agreed and he leaned in with his hand on my cheek. His eyes sparkled.
"AMEEELLLIIAAAAA" I groaned as Abbi walked down my driveway with two bottles of wine raised in the air. Owen slowly moved his hand off my cheek. "Soon baby girl, it be worth the wait" he greeted Abbi, theyve never formally met, and sped off. I slapped her arm. I mumbled "idiot I was having a moment" "what a fine piece of ass" she admired him as he sped off. "Hands off Wood, hes mine" we both laughed and wondered inside.
Who knows what shell say.
