"Amelia" a little voice filled my ears. I felt a poke on my face. When I opened my eyes a found a little Oliver stood there holding his teddy. "Amelia I'm hungry" I shut my eyes in frustration as the light caused my head to hurt. "Why dont you wake up Daddy?" He shook his head. "I want you to make me breakfast" his puppy dog eyes made it hard to say no. I huffed and got out of bed, leaving Owen snoring. I lifted Oliver up and we both went downstairs.
"What do you want for breakfast chicken?" I filled up a glass of water and found the paracetamol. Oliver went in the cereal cupboard and pulled out the cookie crisp. I made Oliver a bowl and sat him at the table. Great 10 o'clock not bad going for a child. Training at 2, then coffee with the girls at 4.
I played with the ring on my finger, it still didnt seem real. Doubts flooded my mind, is he doing this because he wants to be with me or because of what the girls at training said. Either way hes stuck with me one way or another. I found the blanket and lied down on the sofa, Oliver joined me as we watched some kids cartoons.
I woke up to the sound of my alarm at 1, I tried to sneak off the sofa without waking Oliver up. It was a late night last night. "Morning beautiful" I was surprised to see Owen up. He pulled me in for a hug. "What's up?" I shrugged "just tired and hungover" he laughed. "It was worth it though" I nodded and had the biggest smile on my face reminiscing all the events of last night. He held my hand and we both admired the ring. Oliver started screaming, me and Owen ran into the living room to find an Oliver on the floor. "I fell off" he said in between sobs. Owen scooped him up and cuddled him on the sofa. Oliver was so tired and grumpy as well. I ran up the stairs to get changed. I was tempted to pass on this training session as I defintely wont be on top form. But how bad would it look if a captain didnt turn up because they went out drinking the night before.
I dragged myself down the stairs, "good morning or afternoon" Andy and Colleen burst through the front door. I greeted them both. "Cars back on the drive Farrell" Andy chucked the keys to Owen, nearly hitting Oliver. "Anyway, catch up with you later" I said goodbyes, hugging the soon to be in laws, kissing Owen and kissing Oliver's head. Before I shut the door I heard "shes a good one, keep her" i smiled to myself and made my way to training.
I hopped out the car and walked towards the stadium, scrolling through twitter. Of course mine and Owen's events were all over twitter. There were some really kind messages and others not but I scrolled past them and replied to some of the nice ones. I walked into the changing room towards my locker. "How could he get engaged to her?" "What's so special about her?" "He'll leave her at the altar or something" there was a wall separating my side of the changing room to the other half.
The girls that shared my half didnt say anything. But I could feel my anger building up. I took the ring off and put it in the locker. Didnt want it to get damaged. I walked around the wall "possibly because I'm not as stuck up as you" I smiled politely. "You what?" Of course it was Emma, I wish she'd learn to keep her gob shut. "You heard" I went to walk away as she pulled me back. She got in my face. "You think youre so much better than us" "well I am the captain for a reason" she really did not like that. I could nearly see the steam come out of her ears, like the Harry Potter scene. I smirked at her and I didnt back down one bit. The whispers in the changing room got louder but it was just noise not words.
She went to swing for me, but I managed to catch her fist in my hand, thank god for peripheral vision. I pushed her away and went to walk away, but her grip on my arm stopped me. Before I could turn round she managed to plant a right hook in the side of my head. Knocking me a bit, but when I regained my balance, my fist connected with her nose. "You'll pay for this" as she held her bleeding nose. It happened so quickly, my violent side never came out. But some how if anyone mentions anything bad about Oliver or Owen I seem to switch quicker than the weather.
I probably should have a head assessment before this training session. This was going to be one fun season. Cant wait to tell the girls.
