The months started to fly by, I couldnt even bare to think about the wedding. I kept putting it off like it was something bad that I never wanted to happen. We welcomed the new year in with the girls and the rugby boys. We had Oliver, which seemed to be the norm at the moment, so I didnt drink too much. We went down to the London Eye to watch the firework display. Oh my what an experience. We took alcohol down with us of course. Owen got absolutely slaughtered which was quite funny as it was my turn to look after him. I focused all my energy on rugby, Saracens and Loughborough were still top of the table. We dont play them now until the last game of the season at home.
February seem to come by quicker than I thought, I was so not prepared for this. I scurried round the house making everywhere immaculate before all the families get here. It was a bad idea inviting everyone to the cake tasting. My family and Owen's family altogether. Which sounds quite nice but will definitely be a handful. "Don't worry, everything will be fine" Owen wrapped his arms round my waist. "I know, but you know what I'm like" he laughed and "hmm" at me. "Whens Uncle Ray going to be here?" Oliver whined. Somehow he loved my family. He would always ask when can we go see Blake again. Blake was his favourite for sure, no doubt about that. It was great, they were roughly the same age. Apart from nursery it was his only interaction with other children, especially children his age. Holly had him every other weekend, since she found out she was expecting she sort of dropped Oliver. Of course, her new family was more important. But Oliver luckily wasn't too fussed and thankfully she finally accepted Owen wasn't going back to her.
I ran to the door, before the doorbell could even finish ringing. "Hi, cake for the Farrells" I nodded and lead the young women through to the dining area where she placed a few cake boxes. "Thank you. I know this must be strange, but you know what families are like" she laughed at me and nodded. "I'll just get the rest out" I looked shocked and turned to Owen. "How much did you order?" He gave me the cheekiest grin. "Enough" he looked so smug with himself. ''I know how much you like cake!'' I gave him a shocked look ''What is that suppose to mean Farrell'' I narrowed my eyes at him ''Nothing'' he chuckled to himself and walked into the kitchen.
When everyone started arriving, I handed out little glasses of prosecco and fizzy orange juice for the children. Everyone was quite happy. I cut up the cakes we had a range from;
Chocolate cake
Vanilla sponge
Orange cake
Red velvet cake
Carrot cakeWith all different toppings;
Fondant icing
Marzipan
Icing sugar
And of course the cakes all had different fillings;
Jam
Berries
Chocolate chips
Chocolate cream
Whipped creamOnce everyone had arrived it settled down and everyone seemed to be in their element. Which I was definitely relieved about. All this stress for nothing. I started to relax more as the afternoon went on, the glasses of prosecco probably had something to do with it. The children were hyper and the adults started to get drunk. It was going perfect. We did a vote of which cake we should have. Luckily, everyone agreed it should be vanilla sponge with chocolate filling and strawberries. Traditional wedding cake is horrible, imagine going to all this effort for a wedding and having the worst cake ever. We started to talk designs. Everyone had the thought of rugby themed. We decided it would have little figures of me and Owen on top both holding a rugby ball with the posts behind us. We decided to go with a red and white themed wedding, of course, England colours.
''I think, it should be a towered cake with grey finishing on all layers and then red flowers down the side of the cake. Then you can have your topping on top'' Of course, Colleen was the only one to suggest proper ideas. She took a lead with the wedding planning which I wasn't sure how i felt with it. Some points she is more interfering and overpowering than helpful but I suppose like she said this is the first wedding she was allowed to plan. Hopefully the last wedding of Owens she will ever have to plan.
The ideas of red roses for the flowers, the boys in grey tuxedos with a red bow tie. The bridesmaids in red dresses, of course I had already picked my bridesmaids. My sister, Charly and Abbi. Keeping it simple. Then Oliver as a page boy with a mini grey suit and red bow tie matching Owen. I handed my dad a little envelope and he looked confused. It read 'will you do my the honour of giving me away?' he jumped up and hugged me, tears filled his eyes. ''Yes of course I will'' the room filled with 'awws'
Everything was slowly falling into place.
