The car ride was so awkward, I didn't know what to say to him and he didnt know what to say to me. I just stared our the window, like I was in a video for a song. Any minute now the rain will start pouring. My stomach rumbled "hungry?" He half hearted laughed. I just nodded and "hmmm, yeah you didnt feed me" he chuckled slightly and then didnt say anything else. Where was our banter? Our laughs? Everything broken because of two stupid drunken sentences. I kept beating myself up, I was falling in love with him but I should never of told him.
We arrived at Mama Farrells which seemed like the longest car journey ever. "AMELIA, OWEN" the middle aged woman stood there, looking all beautiful and bright like she always did. Then there's me looking hella rough and feeling hella rough. I tried to smile as much as I could. This headache was just getting worse. I felt someones arms squeeze my legs. "Was you good for grandma?" Owen asked Oliver. "He was perfect!" Mama Farrell said as she invited us in. I carried Oliver in followed by Owen.
The food smelt delicious as it only made my stomach growl even louder which got a chuckle out of both Oliver and Owen. Dinner was ready and nearly laid out on the table. I offered to help but got told to sit down and not to worry.
The five of us all sat at the table. The boys started bantering about the game "well what can I say the best team won" Owen laughed as his dad just grunted. "Just remember who coached you" I glanced over at his mum and she just rolled her eyes, I nearly spat out my food. Maybe this wasnt as bad as I thought.
"Good night last night?" I looked at Owen as we shared a very awkward look and both replied "yeah it was good" at the same time. "You dont sound so sure" Owen just nodded. "I just dont drink so it got a bit messy and the drinks just kept flowing I couldnt keep up" i half hearted laughed. "Signs of a good night then" Owen's Dad piped up. "Yeah something like that" I laughed as I look straight back down at my dinner that disappeared quicker than I imagined. I was drinking so much water. I was so dehydrated.
We all finished dinner and I helped clear up while the boys grabbed a beer from the fridge. "Owen dont forget your driving" I scolded him, he immediately put his beer down, rolled his eyes and joined his dad in the living room. "You've got him well trained already" his mum laughed. "When are you two going to get together" "never" I laughed, I kept rubbing my neck, tracing where it was. I couldnt bring myself to say what it was, it made me feel dirty. Like he owned me, he marked me.
"Never what?" Owen burst through to the kitchen getting himself some water. "Nothi-" I tried to but was interrupted "never will she get with you" she cocked her eyebrow up. He looked disheartened but tried to play it off "good could you imagine another rugby player in this family" we all laughed. "Yeah but you two are great, and look how happy Oliver is lately with Amelia around. Hes like a different child" I could not look at Owen but I could feel his stare. "Mum stop, shes just my best friend nothing more nothing less" the pit in my stomach got even bigger. I wasnt just your best friend last night Farrell! I wanted to scream at him and the ground to swallow me whole. His mum gave me a "yeah right" look. She knew "you okay?" I nodded. She knew something wasnt right. "If you're not and its because of that GIANT ASS in there" she emphasised the giant ass shouting towards the living room "you can tell me I will kick some sense into him. Since Holly hes been a mess with girls" I tensed as her name was mentioned. His mum hugged me and reassured me everything will be fine. Mothers intuition I suppose.
Best friends? If that's all we will ever be I need to get out of here. Any friendship we have has just been ruined.
