"In other words, you want to leave Port Mafia, right Rei-chan?"
There was no point in hiding him, she shouldn't bother herself with such a futile task anyway. Slowly, Rei nodded with hands rounded behind her back.
"Hiding that piece of jewelry won't make you any less of a mafioso. And it definitely won't rid you of any gruesome deeds you've committed."
Mori turned to face her with a smile falling from his lips. He hadn't moved from his seat one bit, only diverting his eyes from the outside view to her. He knew that day would come since he first granting her a position here. In all honesty, he didn't expect much at first since she was a nice kid at heart, she lacked certain qualities to be a true mafioso. But as time passed, with countless completed missions reported, he saw more and more of what called brutality in her eyes and actions.
Yet, it was still not her nature, it was something she must do in order to survive, it was purely her ways of surviving in here. It was something she must do in order to achieve her higher goal, to find her brother.
"I suppose you want to leave Port Mafia after you've found your brother."
"Yes, I'm here today for permission to do so."
What was that rising within him? Was it anger? Mori found the feeling incredibly familiar, it was the feeling of losing something of great matter in order to gain something even greater in importance. It was the price he had to pay, though Mori wasn't always so willing to do it.
He lost Dazai 2 years ago, and though she was not as useful as Dazai, Rei had her way of completing given missions successfully.
She might not be the best that they have had, but she was the plan B that never failed.
"What will you do if I say no?"
Mori laced his fingers and slowly placed them under his chin. The fiery rays of sunset greeted his barely open gaze. Eyelids hung low for a moment before they closed completely.
'Beg me? Kill me? Or will you leave anyways?' Hundreds of those answers emerged from the back of his mind. He was curious to say the least, the Rei standing in front of him wasn't that weakling of a female that he took in years ago. However, whichever answer it was, Mori wouldn't be too pleased to see any of them becoming reality.
"I will stay, if you say no."
It took him by surprise to hear such things from her. He was quite satisfied with the answer, seeing that she still had loyalty towards him and Port Mafia. Some parts of him was put at ease as he heard her reply. For so the Boss of Port Mafia tilted his head aside with a crooked smile.
"I don't want to force you to stay, you can leave."
Those roseate lips of the female unconsciously curved up.
"But only if you find your brother alive. I supposed you've got a hint of why I gave you this mission. And you are correct, there's no one more suitable than you. If you manage to complete this mission and bring your brother back, I will let you leave as you wish."
Rei never came back to Port Mafia.
She disappeared, without a word informing her subordinates, without a goodbye to Akutagawa. Frankly, she didn't have the guts to do so. And she didn't have the guts to look at Kouyou either, knowing that she was the cause of Chuuya's death.
She wanted to die too, after knowing that she was the cause of his death.
But once those nostalgic tune came to capture her attention, the suicidal thoughts vanished almost completely. Just that tune, no, just to hear him play whatever on those strings would put her mind at ease instantly.
