"Are you nervous about this?"

"Why wouldn't I be?"

Greg and Pete were standing outside. Now was the time for Pete to do something so nerve wracking that it felt like his heart was going to explode.

"You know, she's waiting."

"I know, I know."

"Anyways, good luck bro, you got this."

"Thanks Greg."

Greg left as Pete went in through the blanket.

What Greg did was he set up a picnic in what looks like a blanket fort outside. There were lights and plenty of late night snacks. Even though Greg was never planning on doing something like this, he thought it would be cool for his friends to see.

Pete entered and saw Brooke, sitting there, eating a pretzel stick out of a pretzel bag.

"You took like forever."

"Thanks."

Brooke stopped chewing on her pretzel stick.

"Are you dumb?"

"No, I just have something to tell you."

"Is that why we're here? I thought you wanted me to dig in on the food."

"That and...."

"Did you set this up?"

"Greg did actually."

"Greg, Wait a second?"

Brooke went deep in to thought.

"I think you know what's going on here!"

"I do."

"Well, why don't you tell me, Petey?"

Brooke got closer to Pete, snuggling under his arm.

"What's with the nickname?"

"You called me Brookie, why can't I call you Petey?"

"I said it on accident."

"And I did it on purpose."

Brooke got closer to Pete, until they were almost mouth to mouth.

"You like me, and you wanted to tell me after all of these years. Don't think I don't know, Pete. Whenever you see me, you turn into a red pepper."

"T-t-th-tha-that's not true..."

"Stop denying it. Didn't we promise to be honest with each other, always?"

"Yeah."

"Why lie about feelings if we can serenade to each other with words of love?"

Pete looked away and but his lip.

"You're right."

"Aren't I?"

Pete cut Brooke's words short by kissing her.

"I've always wanted to kiss you for so long."

"Me too."

They kissed each other more passionately and again and again.

Brooke fell on top of Pete and they laid on each other.

The kissing stopped when Brooke stared at Pete's eyes.

"You're so warm, I never knew you were so warm."

"Hey, you can use me as a mattress if you want."

Brooke hugged Pete's figure as she started to doze off on him.

Pete played with her dirty blonde hair as she and him whispered I love yous to each other.

As the sun set and night came, Pete watched the stars while Brooke was still asleep with him.

"So, we're dating? I must be the happiest man alive to have somebody like you. It's not everyday that something like this would happen. Our story, a boy and a girl as best friends, might seem cliche, because in the end everyone would say that we date in the end. We must both be lucky.

To say when I first met you, I would have never thought that we'd kiss or you would cuddle up on me like a cat, Brooke, you were always a feisty one, always saying that you were playing around when you'd jump on my back or snuggle in between my arms or hug me extra tightly. Surprisingly, you are extra good at hiding your feelings. A moment like this, you must have been dreaming of ever since you were a kid. And even though you're not awake right now, I hope that you're hearing this in your dreams. As you're in my arms, as the stars shoot across the empty sky, and you and I.

Is this liking you, or it is loving you? The way that you.... how do I say it? How you pretend to be confident, assertive, and emotionless when in reality, you just want attention and somebody to kiss and hug and serenade to you until you fall asleep. Somebody that is a friend and a boyfriend at the same time. Midnight trips around the campus with you, ghost hunting with you, everything is better with you, everything will always be better when you're with me.

And to the wolves and hounds that try to attempt to take you away from me, I will be your knight in shining armor. I will be your prince, no the king of your dreams because you deserve more than a prince. You deserve a god. You are more than the world, more than the planets, more than gold, diamonds, money. More than everything in existence. If somebody broke your heart, you would go cold and turn your back against love. When we're together, I promise. We'll have an eternal love. Even if we don't get married, we'll love each other forever.

These feelings as kids were called cooties and goodies and all that fancy stuff like that. Because, as kids, we couldn't be able to understand these feelings. They feel so warm and so soft, and sometimes, you can't ever get enough. Maybe as kids we have each other cooties after we played tag and we touched each other. You would run to your girls and I would run to my guys and we'd scream that we gave each other cooties on the playground. Those were the days that I treasure, and days like today, I'll always remember, because you were here right by my side, and I couldn't ask for anything else.

*sigh

Brooke Emília Kamila Pizarro, I love you. I love you and I love you and I love you. I love everything about you and you're the only one for me. From your smile to your laugh and your pretty eyes and your cute little nose, you are a masterpiece. Even though your personality might seem a little out there, you're the best best friend and the best girlfriend that I could ever had. If anybody hurts you, I swear to god, I will hurt them a thousand times worse than they hurt you."

Pete looked at Brooke again. It must have gotten extra late at night. He got up while being careful and carried Brooke to the dorms.

Down the hallways where they went ghost hunting, through the familiar walls and floors and to Brooke's door. He made sure to be extra careful to not wake anybody else up.

In the room, he laid Brooke on the bed, tucking her in like a mother with a child.

Before he left, he kissed Brooke one last time on the forehead.

"Good night, Brooke. I love you."

Pete walked out of the room quietly. Brooke smiled a little bit.
