1 Day Later
I hid behind a tree, fear knotting my stomach. A manticore was chomping on a dead fae, and I knew it was selfish, but I really hoped I wasn't next. If I moved, the manticore would no doubt hear me and I would be dead. Probably would save me from this most undesirable fate though. Yesterday, my sister banished me from my home because my brother ran away and she became queen. Vivian was probably having the time of her damned life.

"Turd," I whispered furiously at the thought of Vivian. A roar filled the air and I immediately panicked. I forgot how manticores could hear almost anything. Frantically, I begged my wings to allow me to fly, even if just this once. I called upon my magic and pointed it at my wings. As a fae princess, I could control the elements, water, fire, nature, and air. It would come in handy if it worked right now. As my wings started to lift me in the air, I thanked the goddesses. Soon, I was flying above the trees and I landed in one far away from the manticore. The thing was huge, with antlers and a troll shaped body. When I was learning about creatures in school, I had hoped I would never meet one, yet here we are.

Flashback
I was sitting in class, heart beating fast. My best friend Lissia was up at the board, telling the class about her experience with a manticore and how it almost ate her. She was so brave.

"The manticore was sitting on the ground mere feet away from me and my sister, Kassia! We were doing our own thing when we heard it roar, and wow it can roar! The roar shook the trees and one even fell down! Kassia ran away, holding me to her, but the manticore quickly caught up to us. Without knowing what she was doing, she gathered as much energy as she could, and threw the energy ball at the beast. It flinched, but didn't fall down. Kassia ran even further and climbed up a tree. She left me on the top and went a few branches down. You see, she has the power to talk to anything that is alive. She talked to the trees, and they were able to move and surround the manticore. The beast was furious! It tried to climb up the tree, but fell straight on its lazy butt! Kassia cast a spell which cost her a lot of energy, and made the beast disappear!"

The entire class clapped as Lissia took a bow and sat back down next to me. I was terrified of the creatures outside of the city walls.

"You're so brave," I whispered to Lissia.

"I'm not, Kassia is!" Lissia said happily.

End of flashback

I mustered all the energy I could, and threw it at the beast. It fell onto its ass and growled at me. I laughed at its feeble attempt to threaten me.

"Nice try beast ass!" I shouted, gathering a lightning bolt in my hand and throwing it at the manticore. I earned another growl by saying that.

Before I threw another energy spell at the beast, it roared and got up, stomping towards me. My heart beat frantically in my chest, but I didn't let that get to me. I've been through worse with Vivian. I made the air a strong wind and directed it at the beast, throwing it back on its lazy ass.

"You fae will not win! Vivian will destroy you!" The manticore said. I wasn't aware they could talk, but I decided to get more information out of it before I would kill it.

"What do you speak of, beasty boy?"

"Vivian will kill you and let us creatures of the dark eat all the fae we desire." The manticore said, wheezing as I cut his air supply.
