My eyes bulged out and my face filled with surprise as I watched my best friend grow into a form only a monster can possess. Fiery purple horns erupted from her scalp and her wings were covered in flames. Fire gushed out from her fingers as her eyes turned a deep red. Sounds I never thought I'd hear her make erupted from her throat as she flew out the window.
"Titania! Wait!" I cried, running towards the window.
"Ofelia, we cant stop her. Whatever happened to her has made her powerful. We'd be best not to piss her off in this form." Kayden said, walking up beside me. His face held the same amount of surprise and fear as mine and we both stared out at the window. Fire started to swallow trees whole after an ear pitching roar erupted through the night. My eyes welled up watching the trees burn and I knew Titania wasn't who I remembered. That demon altered her.
"Kayden! What has happened to her?" I cried, turning my face into his chest as I cried. His arms surrounded me as I continued to cry.
"The demon has combined its powers with her. She's now an unstoppable force and if my speculations are correct, Titania already possesses the amount of magic Marina did."
"But why her? She's already been through so much!"
"I know, Ofelia." Kayden continued to hold me as I cried. When I moved my head so I could look out the window, I noticed the flames now covered half the forest. This wasn't the Titania I knew years ago. This wasn't the person who I befriended at six years old, the one who saved me from a life of embarrassment. The one who brought me into the high fae court. I watched the trees spread further and further into the forest and walked out of Kayden's embrace. I looked towards Cassie's sickly body. Never did I ever think I'd see this girl die in front of my eyes and the same day, my best friend to turn into the demon residing in her body. I feared for all that I knew in this world. I feared what will happen to everyone.
"Ofelia." I whirled around to see Kayden looking at me with sad eyes. His handsome face was scrunched up as he looked me up and down, eyes lingering on my lips. The thing about me and Kayden was, before Vivian took over, we started to like each other. Like, we started to like like each other. But, just as soon as things started to get really good, he ran away and Vivian took over. The way Vivian looked on her coronation filled my mind and I cringed. Her eyes as she threw my best friend onto the stage, bruised, beaten, and bloody. The fear in Titania's eyes as the crowd looked at her. The smile etched on Vivian's face as she killed the ladies of the court. I could understand why Titania was so pissed.
"Kayden? Where is Titania?" Odette's scratchy voice filled the room and I turned around to see her looking out the window. The entire forest from what I could see was burning to the ground. The way the trees fell on the ground shook me to my very core. Titania wouldn't want this, she wouldn't want to watch trees die. She probably was feeling the pain of nature, especially being right with it. My heart ached as I thought about what she must be experiencing.
"Ofelia, please." Kayden said, looking at me staring out the window. I turned around and looked him in the eyes.
"There is nothing we can do? Titania must be suffering immense pain from the fire she caused! My Titania would never do this!" I screeched at him. Kayden's face morphed into confusion before turning serious.
"If Titania is anything like Marina, she'll feel the exact things the trees are feeling."
"Let's go then! We can't let her suffer like this!" I whined, begging him. Just then, the door opened and Cornelius marched in. His face was scrunched up as he looked out the window.
"Where is Titania?!" He asked, looking around frantically. I could tell he cared for my best friend, but if he didn't treat her right, I would make his life hell.
"She's out there." Kayden pointed to the fire. Cornelius's face turned panicked.
"What?! Why?!"
"She caused it. I'll explain on the way, but we need to go!" Kayden said. Cornelius nodded and we rushed down the corridors out the door.
