Odette and Cassie were so excited for the sleepover. The surprise on their faces when they saw Ofelia sitting in the corner was priceless though. They both squealed and jumped into her arms, making her fall back. They were giggling so loud, I could barely hear the whispers of the court ladies outside. I slipped into the bathroom connected to my rooms and grabbed my plain white silk nightgown. As I slipped it on, the soft sensation of silk washed over me and I sighed in contentment. The white nightgown was lacy in the middle and a small ribbon was resting behind my back. I tied the ribbon a tiny bit more so that I would fit a little bit more snugly. The giggling was still happening in the official bedroom, so I sagged against the door as I heard a voice I have learned to hate.
"We could be so great if we team up. Destroy all that is good." Izzalee whispered into my mind.
"But I don't want to destroy anything! I want you out of my body!"
"No can do, sweetie. You're stuck with me."
"How lovely."
"Maybe, we can come to a truce?"
"Like what?"
"Like..... maybe we could destroy Vivian."
"I'm listening." Izzalee grabbed my interest there. Maybe, just maybe, having a demon on my side would give me more power. Maybe I could even tap into Izzalee's powers.
"That'll require quite a lot of practice."
"I'm willing to try."
"Fine, I'll attempt to help you destroy Vivian."
"Good. Now, can you stop invading my mind?"
"Fine."
I sighed in relief as Izzalee's voice quieted down and I had my own mind back. I hated sharing a mind with a demon growing inside me. It fricken hurt not having my mind to myself anymore.
"Titania! Hurry up, I have to go!" Cassie cried, banging on the door. Sighing, I opened the door and walked out. Cassie ran in, whimpering. Odette was sitting on the bed with Ofelia, doing her hair. Odette has always had a thing for doing hair, be it styles, coloring, bleaching, curling, straightening, you name it. I have always assumed Odette's talent would be related to styling hair or something, and I was excited for her tenth birthday, where her dominant faery talent would be revealed. Apparently, if what Kayden said on the mountain was true, I was the modern Marina. But the thing was, Marina was descended from Sorcha, the queen of the goddesses. I didn't have any records that said I was descended from any goddess. It'd be awesome if I was, but I didn't have proof. The amount of power Marina possessed was intense, and I couldn't even see myself having half of that power and if I did, I had zero idea on how to control it.
"Titania, can I do your hair now?" Odette's voice broke me out of my thoughts, and I looked up to see her up from where she was braiding Ofelia's hair. Ofelia had two perfect blonde braids cascading down her back like a waterfall, and I smiled. My little sister was very talented. At only six years old, she could do hair like a professional. I knew one day she would be an amazing hairstylist.
"Sure." I told her, walking over to the bed to sit next to Ofelia. Odette's happy squeals filled my ears and I was happy that I could make my sister this excited. The bed dropped down when I sat, causing Ofelia to do a little bounce. She smiled at me as I got comfortable.
"Hey." She said.
"Hey." I replied.
Odette sat behind me and started to part my hair. She parted it into five different sections and I wondered what she was going to do. I knew Odette had a bunch of cool hairstyles she made up. Like the 'flare'. The flare was a bun with braids surrounding it. Multiple braids, like ten. I was the only one who she has ever been able to do it for, as my hair was the thickest of anyone she's ever helped.
"What style are you doing to her, Odette?" Ofelia asked.
"A small version of the 'flare'." Odette replied happily. I knew she loved doing that style on me, though this way felt different. It felt as if she was making revisions to the old style I knew.
"I look forward to seeing it." Ofelia said, smiling at me.
"Thank you!" Odette squealed happily.
Odette's hands tangled in my hair as she put a perfect bun at the top of my head. Her hands then began braiding one of the smaller sections of hair she separated and soon, she put the first braid over my shoulder. When she finished braiding all five, she tied them up around the bun. But, something felt different.
"Is there one braid that isn't in the bun?" I asked Odette.
"Yes! I tried something different on Lena, and it worked perfectly!"
I felt the bun on top of my head. Pins were everywhere, holding the bun up and braids were tied loosely around the pins. Honestly, I didn't have any way to properly describe my sister's hairstyles. They were funky, to say the least. But a good funky.
"Oh! Good! Cassie, I want to do your hair now!" Odette said, looking at Cassie, who just came out of the bathroom, looking a bit pale.
"Cassie, are you ok?" I asked, noticing her looking sickly.
"I'm fine, just have a minor headache." She said faintly.
"Are you sure? I'm just going to call Falynn to be sure." I said, lightly pulling on a string that's used to call for a healer. I knew they'd send me Falynn because I was already comfortable with her. Seconds later, Cassie's knees gave out and she collapsed on the floor. Her eyes were still open, but sweat dropped down her face.
"Cassie!" I cried, running to my sister. Panic filled me as I felt her forehead. It was burning hot. Her eyes fluttered slightly before closing. My heart pounded furiously as the door burst open and Falynn rushed in. Her face was slightly scrunched and she was breathing heavily.
"There's been a virus found in the castle." She announced, looking at me and Cassie. Her face softened as she noticed the six year old on the floor.
"Princess Cassiopeia?" She asked, confirming Cassie's identity.
"Yes, but she prefers Cassie. Can you please help her?" I begged, looking at my sister. Her breathing was growing more irregular and more sweat made her face shiny. Her pale skin was even paler than I've ever seen it and worry crept into my very being, making tears sprout to my eyes. My only weaknesses were those I loved.
"I'll do my best, but a few faeries have died from this virus already." Falynn said, crouching down next to Cassie's slumped figure. She put her hands on Cassie's forehead, which was now drenched in sweat, and a soft blue light erupted from her. Falynn's face scrunched up as she breathed heavily. I held my fingers over my lips, silently begging the goddess that Cassie was ok. I refused to let my sister die from a virus. I'd rather it be me! Cassie still had so much to live for. Tears fell down my face as Cassie's condition only worsened as Falynn continued to try over and over. Finally, she sighed and looked at me sadly.
"NO! She is not gone!" I screamed at Falynn, crying furiously. Falynn looked at me with sympathy in her eyes.
"Keep trying! Take her to a hospital! Please." I whispered the last word desperately. Falynn sighed.
"I'll do my best, but she's almost in Khimos's hands. I'm sorry."
I nodded, but my head barely moved. Falynn lifted Cassie in her arms and walked towards the door. She looked back us before walking out. But she turned around almost instantly.
"If you come out of this room, wear some kind of protection charm, because this virus is not a natural sickness. It's a spell of some sort." And with that last warning, Falynn walked out of the room entirely.
