~Damon's POV~

It had been fifteen minutes since Bonnie stopped chanting, every attempt at waking up my mate unsuccessful. The witch was sitting at the edge of the bed looking helpless and concerned while I held Eva's hand for dear life.

At first, I only thought she was down because of the overuse of magic, that she would wake up after gaining some strength, but now looking at her prone body lying motionless for hours I felt overwhelming dread.

We had tried everything, injecting her some of my blood, bonnie's magic even sprinkling water, but just laid there no movement what so ever.

Finally, finally just as I found the one worthy reason for my undead existence, nature was throwing me curveball.

I tightened my hold on her hand placing a kiss on it.

"Please Eva, wake up, I can't lose you." My voice cracked.

As if she had heard my pleading her eyes shot open a gasp escaping her as she breathed in deeply.

"Oh thank god you are awake." I and Bonnie were instantly on her checking to see whether she was alright.

"Damon, Bonnie, I..." I could see the confusion in her eyes. So I quickly filled her in.

"You fainted. Eva, you used up too much power, it overwhelmed you knocking you out."

"Oh right. How long was I out?"

"A few hours."

"Mhmm. Damon, can I have some water?" She asked holding on to her throat.

"Yeah, wait a second." I flashed away leaving the two girls in the room.

~Eva's POV~

"What are you doing here?" I asked Bonnie not unkindly but curiously.

"I, um... I'm sorry-"

"No, no, no need apologize, I was just curious. You are Elena's best friend and with her being not very much on good terms with me, I thought..." I trailed off feeling like an idiot.

'Oh my god, Eva! Shut up! She was just concerned!' I berated myself before smiling sheepishly at her.

"It's fine. You know her feelings do not affect mine alright. And considering the amount of power you just showcased I'd like to be you, friend." She joked lightening the awkwardness making me laugh.

"Good to know my powers are effective."

"Well, jokes aside. I want to thank you. Grams told me that, she would have died if had not helped. And she is a very important person to me, so thank you, Eva." She said her words sincere. I smiled in return happy that I had one more friend and a girl at that.

"Don't mention it. At the time you two needed it." I waved away her thanks because I didn't really deserve it. Even knowing Ms.Shelia would have dies I had no initial intension of saving her, so I did not deserve her gratitude.

Soon Damon came back bringing a whole tray of food. And I gladly accepted, I needed to get my strength back.

The rest of the night after Damon went away to take care of something Bonnie and I bonded. We talked about everything and everyone, we laughed and joked. And at the end of the night, I had one more person I cared for.

Just like the Salvatore boys, I would give my life to save her.

Finally when I was alone in the room, when no light was present I let myself think of my adoptive parents.

All this time I've thought the love and care they've shown me was genuine, that after thirteen years of living like a savage I finally had a family, a caring mother, a strong and loving dad, and a dear, annoying sister but according to the man I met in my dream whom I did not know the name of, all of it had been a lie, just compulsion telling them to love me.
