~Elijah's POV~
An amazing sense of peace was surrounding me when I opened my eyes, my arms tightening around my sleeping mate as she burrowed closer into my embrace.
Yesterday after our intense intimate session we retired to her bedroom where she had requested my presence to remain, hence allowing me to have the pleasure of having her in my arms as she lulled back once again asleep.
Propping up on my elbow, my other hand rested on her hip, where her nightshirt had ridden up disclosing a silver of her velvet skin.
Lazily tracing it with my fingers I studied her resting profile. Looking so young and defenseless. A creature from another world, and every day since I've known the truth I'd been thankful to Alexandros for making it possible for me to meet her.
My lovely mate was a mystery, her life a puzzle with pieces gone missing along the years, and I could see what that had done to her. She for the most part looked like any other normal girl with supernatural powers, but there were moments when she would just stare off blankly, her mind seemingly confused.
Living a thousand years as a vampire had taught me a great many things but the amount of brokenness I found in her could rival Niklaus.
But despite all that I loved her, her beauty, her strength, her loyalty to her loved ones, the adorable confusion regarding her emotions, her rather unhealthy obsession with junk food, the momentary darkness that resided in her eyes, I loved them all.
Placing a soft longing kiss on her forehead I slowly got out of the bed making sure I did not disturb her.
I was about to walk to the bathroom when my phone rang, my head shot to the bed, but relaxed when Eva simply turned around a small frown of annoyance appearing on her face for a moment before it too simply smoothed out.
Taking the phone from the nightstand I walked out of the room afraid to further interrupt her. Seeing an unknown number I frowned before answering anyway.
"Hello, who is this?"
"Why, it's your darling brother Elijah." The accented teasing voice made me still.
"Niklaus," I stated, and sighed when I heard the amused laughter from the other side of the line.
"Well aren't you a grumpy one?" Niklaus paused before speaking again, all the teasing gone from his voice which was now laced with deadly seriousness. "Let's have a chat shall we? Find me at the history teacher's house." The line went dead with that, and I stood surrounded by the creamy white walls of Eva's hallway my phone clenched in my palm.
For a stuttered moment it was all I could do as I thought of the threat my own brother brought upon my mate. Niklaus has started playing his game and I did not know how much I will have to lose this time.
Because despite being older than him, Nikalus was far more jaded and far more adept at playing the villain. Even when I arrived here with the motive of killing him I've known I was probably struggling fruitlessly.
But this time it was different, this time, it involved my whole world. After a thousand years of betrayed torment, I've finally met her and it terrified me to think that I would not be able to protect her. Because at the end of the day Niklaus was my brother, my family and deep down I knew I would never be able to really kill him, even to keep my mate alive.
But that did mean I absolutely won't be able to keep her safe. If I cannot kill my brother at least I could die trying to keep both of them safe.
~Klaus's POV~
I once again looked in the mirror not really comfortable in this new body of mine. The history teacher was a handsome chap by average standards, but the man's taste in clothes was not something I was really keen on.
