~Damon's POV~

Stefan ran away calling Bonnie while Eva's condition started worsening, her breathing more labored, eyes red lit with unbridled rage as she dug her nails into the armrest of the sofa trying to control herself.

Elijah had his hands on her head trying to calm her down by getting into her mind but from the concerned frown on his face, he was not successful.

"I cannot get in, she is much stronger." He spoke strongly looking at me as Eva lost more and more of her control.

Both Elijah and I tried our best but had to move away hissing as her skin became hot, hotter than fire. Splinters of armrest started falling as it failed to withstand her power, the air around her filling with untapped magic, making it difficult to breathe.

"Eva, calm down sweetheart." I tried again starting to walk towards her but her head whipped towards me making my heart stop, her once green eyes were now a fiery orange shining brightly as I felt the anger she was projecting physically making us come to a standstill unable to move forward due to the pressure.

"Do not come close," Her voice rumbled hoarsely, "You will get hurt." She murmured, even withing all that rage her concern for my safety made heart warm, yet helpless as I could only stand next to Elijah watching as our mate struggled for control.

"Bonnie is not answering her phone, Caroline, too." Stefan came back speaking urgently tapping away on his phone with no response in return.

"I'll go get her." Elijah declared getting ready to go away when the ground started shaking a blast blaring from the outside.

Immediately the three of us flashed to the front as a massive burst of power appeared in the middle of my garden, witches, about twenty of them started appearing one by one chanting, their features very much similar to the one in the basement.

"What the hell is going on?" I shouted over all the dust, wind, and the chanting, speeding towards the witches with Elijah and Stefan.

But I got no answer, the witches were not paying us any attention continuing to chant the foreign words turning a blind eye to us.

Of course, that didn't prevent us from paying attention since the next thing I knew the twenty withes laid dead in the middle of the garden as Elijah, I, and Stefan stood amidst the fallen bodies covered in the witches' blood their hearts and heads lying among them.

"That's one way to send them off," I muttered looking at the aftermath in distaste and victory while Elijah still looked apprehensive, Stefan sharing the same joy.

The joy that did not stay long.

The dead witches, one by one stood up, revived from their deaths, hearts, and heads attaching back while I stapped back disturbed on what was happening.

Even the thousand-year-old vampire here with us did not have any better reaction.

"What is this?" I whispered as the witches started chanting once again, this time followed by Eva's scream of absolute pain.

Before any of us could do anything, our mate was out of the boarding house her steps unsteady, yet enraged as she stalked towards us. Her focus never straying from the freaky witches.

"Eva, what's going on? What is happening to them?" I asked immediately as she came upon us.

Eva maintained her glare on the enemy while answering.

"They are trying to overwhelm with magic. I have not awakened the full power of mine and they trying to do it now so that I would lose control and destroy myself with it." She spoke her words very calm a total opposite to the wildness in her eyes.
