Healed

You could feel yourself slowly waking up. You could hear the familiar soothing hum of the Tardis, echoing around you.

You began to become more aware of your body, as the pain crept back in.

You could feel the throbbing at the back of your head and one of your hands and forearms felt like it was on fire, all you could feel was a burning and stinging sensation.

It felt like something cool was wrapped around it, but you could barely feel its effects.

You tried to open your eyes, but they felt extremely heavy and you struggled to do so.

You could feel the weight of something against your side, you felt it make a small movement and realised it was not something it was someone.

Your eyes finally flickered open, taking a little time to focus, as they adjusted to the light.

You turned your head a fraction to the side and could see the doctor, curled up asleep, next to you.

She must have woken up and snuck across to join you.

Her face looked peaceful and content, which you were grateful for. You hated seeing her pained expression from before.

You didn't want to wake her as she needed the rest. You could see each breath she took, watching the rise and fall of her chest.

A small smile appeared on her face, as she slept, causing you to smile too.

You thought back to having to watch her as she went through agony, you had felt helpless, unable to do anything at first.

It physically hurt your heart to see her in pain. You thought back to all the times the doctor had seen you injured.

You understood how she felt now, seeing the person you truly cared about, in pain. It was an awful feeling and you felt guilty about how many times you had unintentionally made the doctor have to feel it.

You had never seen her look so vulnerable and helpless, trapped and unable to free herself. It made you realise that she was not indestructible, and things could happen to her too.

This thought sent an unsettling and anxious feeling through you. You didn't know what you'd do if you ever lost the doctor.

The doctor stirred in her sleep, pulling you closer to her and snuggling into your side.

You placed your arm around her, hugging her close to you.

Your hand rested behind her head,  and you found yourself gently entwining her hair around your fingers.

The doctor stirred again, a content smile reappearing on her face.

Her eyes slowly began to flicker open, she blinked a few times, before they opened wide and focused on you.
