"Sorry you just had to see that...don't listen to a word Tom says, he was so disrespectful" you gently said to Jada.
She looked up at you with wide, and puffy looking eyes, sore from all the tears that had fallen.
"Thankyou for handling that...he needed to be taught a lesson, I was so close to doing that myself..." she replied.
"Your eye looks sore though, are you ok?" Jada asked.
"Trust me...I've had much worse" you laughed lightly.
"I suppose you're over here because you need my help...are you going to tell me that everything's going to be ok...like everyone else?" she asked sadly.
"We really could use your help, but only if you're up to it. And no...I'm not going to tell you everything's going to be ok, regarding your brother... because it isn't" you said, shaking your head.
Jada looked at you with a confused expression.
"It's not ok that you've lost him, and you will not feel ok, you probably won't, ever again. Sure things get slightly better over time, but it will always be there, at the back of your mind. The smallest and strangest things will suddenly remind you of him, and you will suddenly feel the pain again, as it hits you; like a train, without warning" you began.
Jada was staring at you, wide eyed, taking in your every word.
"People deal with grief in their own ways. Nobody can tell you how to feel. You could be upset, confused, angry, numb, shocked or you may not have accepted it yet. You may feel like you are stuck in a nightmare, you wish it weren't real and you are desperately trying to wake up. Unfortunately, you are awake, and your whole world has just been turned upside down; a part of yourself has just been ripped away from you, leaving a large empty space, in your heart."
You could see tears falling from Jada's eyes now, you gently placed a hand on top of hers and looked her in the eyes.
"I don't know how you feel, but if its anything like that, I'm so sorry. I don't know you or Jamal that well, as we've only recently met. However, I can tell you two were close, and you both seem like generally lovely people."
"Usually, people often say that they know that he'd be proud of you, he'd be wanting you to get up and carry on...but you're the one who knows him the best, that's for you to decide. What I do know is that you seemed to care for one another and love each other, very much. I'm so sorry for your loss, for your pain. I can see him, within your eyes, and I bet you can feel him still, within your heart. No one truly ever leaves you." You felt a single tear drop from your own eye and roll down your cheek.
"Thankyou...for your words, what you said, how it feels...only a person who has lost someone themselves, would know that..." Jada said, looking at you with sympathetic eyes.
"I'm the only one of my family left...I've gained an awesome new one though, with these guys" you said, looking over to your best friends and the person you loved the most. The doctor looked up at that moment and smiled warmly at you.
