Chapter 16:
Grey:
It's Friday. Today's Sam's birthday and in honor of her birthday last night I made sure that she went over to Daniel's so he could bring her over to Hunter's at midnight where I would be waiting with cake and decorations. Hunter actually very sweetly offered to let me use his place when I first told him about the idea. I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to make it a surprise at our own apartment.
Sam was thrilled when she came in and saw all the balloons and streamers. It was only the four of us there but she seemed perfectly happy with the small gathering, probably because she knew there was going to be a big celebration for her tonight.
I was nervous about tonight. Really nervous. I wanted it to go well. No I wanted it to go perfectly. Sam of coursed offered to doll me up as soon as I told her that Hunter was coming as my date. I think she was more excited than I was. Okay that wasn't true, but she is pretty psyched. I spent the night at Hunter's last night again but I left in the morning to go home and spend the day with Sam. Hunter told me that he and Daniel had plans today so I didn't feel bad about leaving him to be with Sam
When I got back to my apartment Sam still wasn't back from Daniel's and I realize I probably just should have texted her so we could walk home together but it's alright. I take advantage of her absence to cook her an extravagant breakfast change my clothes, and grab her gift. Luckily Sam walks in just as I finish cooking.
"Happy Birthday!" I yell.
"For me?!" she asks excitedly as she looks at the breakfast laid out on the bar. I nod my head yes. "Gosh I love my birthday" she sighs happily as she comes to sit next to me.
We eat together and talk about last night and what Daniel got her for her birthday. He got her a beautiful new camera bag which she desperately needed since her old one was falling apart. She loved it. I smiled inwardly since I knew she would be getting a new camera to go inside that new camera bag. When she's done eating I run and grab her present.
"What's that?" she asks as she looks at the neatly wrapped box in my hands.
"Your birthday present" I say as I thrust it towards her.
"Grey" she sighs. "You have already done way too much for me. I mean the little get together last night, breakfast this morning, the party tonight. You so did not need to get me a present."
"I so did" I tell her. "Besides you have seen nothing yet. Now just open your present and accept it graciously."
She laughs and rolls her eyes at me as she takes the present from me and unwraps it. When she finally has it open she stares at it for a while with her mouth hanging open in total shock. "Oh. My. Gosh" she says slowly. "Oh my gosh Grey! You didn't!" she squeals excitedly now.
"I did" I say as I shake my head and laugh. I'm happy she's so happy. "Do you like it?" I ask even though I think I already know the answer to that.
"Do I like it?" she asks incredulously. "I freaking love it! Thank you so much Grey! I bet this thing takes the most amazing photos. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"
She puts her new camera down and pulls me into her arms and hugs me tightly. "I love you Grey" she whispers.
"I love you too birthday girl."
"This is going to go perfectly with my new camera bag" she says as she pulls away from me and picks up the camera box. "Hey" she says suspiciously. "Did you two plan this?"
Ironically enough we didn't. "Nope" I tell her. "Just pure coincidence."
"Huh" she says. "Funny how things work out sometimes."
