Grey:

I probably shouldn't be surprised to see her but she on the other hand has every right to be surprised to see me. Her light blue eyes land on me and she certainly does look surprised.

"Grey?" she asks like she's not really sure she sees me. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh uh" I say grasping for words but coming up empty. "I just came by to check on Hunter." I decide to leave out the part where I spent the night. She doesn't need to know about that.

She studies me for a moment like she's trying to decide if she believes me or not. "Where is Hunter?" she asks as she looks into his bedroom.

I'm about to tell her when the bathroom door opens. Thank god. Hunter pokes his head out and he's brushing his teeth.

"Mom?" he asks surprised but it comes out garbled since he has his tooth brush in his mouth. He quickly spits and rinses his mouth. "What are you doing here?" he asks.

"I just dropped your father off at the airport and I figured I'd come by to check on you and maybe make you breakfast but I see Grey here has already taken care of that" she says and I don't miss the way she forces my name out like it taste bad on her tongue.

I suddenly feel small and I wish I could make myself disappear. Unlike all the other times I've seen Hunter's mom she did not look all that pleased to see me now. It probably has to do something with our last encounter. She felt like I was trying to take her son away. I couldn't blame her for feeling this way. I was trying to keep Hunter here.

"Mom don't be rude to Grey" Hunter says defending me. "She was nice enough to come by and help me out."

His mother stares at him for a while and I have no idea what she's thinking. She looks shocked at first that he defended me but then her face smoothes out and her expression is unreadable. I was beginning to realize this was a family trait.

"You're right" she says calmly. "I'm sorry Grey. Thank you for coming to check on him."

"It was no problem" I say quietly through a tight smile. I look towards the door and so does Hunter and we both simultaneously notice the luggage in the doorway for the first time.

"Mom are those yours?" Hunter asks confused.

"Oh yea" she says like she totally forgot they were even there. "I'm going to stay with you for the rest of the week this way you have someone here all the time to look after you until you are strong enough to travel so we can go back to Virginia."

There she goes again. She says it so casually like it's not a life changing decision that she is making for him. And me. I can tell that Hunter doesn't miss it though. His eyes widen in surprise and he looks well, angry.

"Excuse me?" he says fighting to remain calm. "What did you say?"

"You heard me Hunter" she says calmly. "You and I will be going back to Virginia in a week."

"No" he says as he shakes his head. As I look at him I notice there is fear in his eyes like going back there terrifies him.

"Hunter" she sighs. "You need to be with your family right now. You have lost all your memories from your time here. How am I supposed to just leave you here?"

Her blue eyes are pleading with him and for a moment I feel bad again because I can tell how much she loves him and in her defense she thinks she's doing what is best for him. She also has no idea just how serious our relationship had gotten. She probably thought I was some silly girl with a crush.

"You had no problem sending me off here before obviously" he says and his tone is hard and his eyes are like stone. I think he forgot I was standing here. "I seriously doubt it was my decision to just up and leave. I'm sure you and dad had something to do with it."

"Hunter that's not what happened" she says and her voice is now soft and hurt. "I didn't want you to go" she whispers.

Hunter's expression softens for a split second but then it is hardened once again. "Yea but dad did. Didn't he?" he sneers. "I'm not going back to that house with him" he says defiantly.

"Hunter why don't we talk about this later?" his mother suggests as she not so subtly looks over at me.

Hunter looks at me for the first time since this conversation began and his expression softens when he looks at me and I feel warm inside, but then he looks embarrassed that I just witnessed their argument.

"I should go" I say as I look for my coat. Neither one of them says anything. Neither one tries to stop me. "Enjoy the food" I say as I reach the door and look at Hunter.

"Thanks Grey" he says softly and I offer him a small smile before I close the door and walk away.
