Jayda POV
I walk into the cafeteria, and instead of looking for Violet and James, I look for Jessica. I spot her at her usual table across the cafe. I start walking towards her. She smiles when I get closer. "Hey."
"Hey," she greets me back. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah... why wouldn't I be?" I ask.
"Yesterday was pretty crazy; I just wanted to make sure everything was going fine with you today," she says.
I shrug my shoulders. "Yeah, it's been a normal day, at least my idea of normal." Nothing really seems different; I mean, people are still talking about the fight; people still whisper and laugh when I walk past. But that's pretty much it; I haven't seen Ashley, I haven't seen Matt, and I haven't seen Ryder since this morning in history class. None of them came to English, Mr.Brooks class was pretty empty. The only thing I had to worry about was sitting in the middle between James and Violet; they still didn't speak; I can't believe they're mad at me, and for what? They're mad because I'm friends with Jessica. It's really stupid if you think about it. I mean, their friends with me and everything okay, so why can't I be friends with her. I'm not too stressed about that, though; it is what it is.
I can't stand when people always expect you to stop being friends with someone just because they don't like them. That's usually how it goes but that's not me. It's not even a loyalty thing; they don't like her because of what they heard about her, not because they don't like who she is or because she did something to them.
"So when do you want to work on the project?" she asks.
"Uhm, Sunday." I'll be out all day tomorrow with the competition and all, and then Saturday, I'm going out with Caleb. Sunday is my only free day.
"You can come to my house if you want?"
"Sure, that'll work," she says.
"Cool."
...
School over. It's about time. It's really funny because I expected it to be like world war three or something coming into school today. But it was the total opposite. Weirdly, I think this is probably one of the best days I ever had. Not just school but the whole day; I mean, my dad told me not to worry about the college thing, and then, I had two tests today and passed both. It's been a good day. I know I shouldn't probably be telling myself that it's been a good day because as soon as I do, I know something will go wrong. I close my locker and walk down the hall; I need to see Mrs. Rodriguez. I need to know if she heard anything. I turn into the counselor's office and knock on her suite door. I knock again, still no response.
One of the other suite doors open. Mr.Simms, our college counselor, comes out. "Ah, Jayda."
"Hey."
"It's good to see you; I have been meaning to get with you soon. You have yet to apply anywhere for college yet. What's that about?"
"Uh, I just haven't decided yet,"
"Well, you should decide soon. Applications open up next week, and I saw your SAT scores, congratulations, you can anywhere you want," he says.
"Uhm, do you know where Ms.Rodriguez is at?" I ask him.
"Yes, she's out of town."
"Wait. What? Out of town. When is she coming back?" I ask frantically.
"Uhh, I don't know. She called me yesterday and told me she was going to New York for a couple of days," he says.
"Oh, well, Uh, thank you." I turn around and walk out of the office.
